Loyola is back in the NCAA Tournament for the first time since its 2018 Final Four run, and the Ramblers were seeded eighth in the Midwest Region on Sunday.

The Ramblers (24-4) will face No. 9 seed Georgia Tech (17-8) in the first round Friday. If they advance, they would meet top seed Illinois on Sunday, assuming the Illini get past No. 16 seed Drexel.

Loyola was a No. 11 seed three years ago when it reeled off four consecutive upsets to reach its first Final Four since the 1963 national title. The Ramblers’ run ended with a loss to Michigan in a national semifinal.

As they did in 2018, coach Porter Moser’s Ramblers won the Missouri Valley Conference regular-season and tournament titles. They are led by two players who were freshmen on the Final Four team: MVC Player of the Year Cameron Krutwig and MVC Defensive Player of the Year Lucas Williamson. They lead a Ramblers team that ranks first in the country in scoring defense, allowing 55.5 points per game.
