LSU baseball bounces back to take Game 2 vs. Arkansas

Ty Floyd had a quality start and the bats came to life as LSU run-ruled Arkansas 12-2 in Game 2 of the weekend series on Saturday.

Game 2 could not have started out worse for LSU. Ty Floyd gave up a two-run homer and then hit the next two batters he faced. After that, Floyd settled down and struck out the final two hitters of the inning to stop the bleeding at 2-0.

The LSU offense provided some run support for Floyd in the bottom of the second inning as the Tigers plated four runs. Jordan Thompson hit an RBI double to score Josh Pearson. Gavin Dugas and Tre Morgan followed that with back-to-back homers to give LSU its first lead of the series as the Tigers led 4-2 after two innings.

In the bottom of the third, LSU scored another run as Pearson hit an RBI triple to score Cade Beloso and give LSU a 5-2 lead after three innings. The Tigers tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the fifth as Dylan Crews hit a Crews Missile and Tommy White scored on a wild pitch to make it 7-2.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, Morgan and Crews scored on a couple of sacrifice flyouts to give LSU a 9-2 lead. Floyd was replaced by Garrett Edwards in the top of the seventh inning. He ended his day after 6.1 innings allowing two runs on three hits, two walks, and seven strikeouts.

In the bottom of the seventh, Morgan hit an RBI single with the bases loaded, Crews was hit by a pitch, and Milazzo scored on a sacrifice fly to make it 12-2 LSU. With the new run rule in conference games, the game was over. LSU won Game 2 12-2.

Game 3 will be played later Saturday night at 6:30 p.m. CT.
