LSU baseball takes series over Arkansas with pair of doubleheader wins

Mel McDaniel would’ve been proud of this Louisiana Saturday Night as LSU beat Arkansas 14-5 in Game 3 in the second leg of a doubleheader to take the weekend series

Game 3 started out just like Game 2. Arkansas scored two runs in the top of the first inning. This time, they scored both of their runs on bases-loaded walks by Thatcher Hurd.

LSU answered in the bottom of the first when Dylan Crews hit a two-run Crews Missile to center field to tie the game.

Arkansas scored again in the top of the third inning when Cali hit a two-RBI double to give the Razorbacks a 4-2 lead. Once again, LSU answered in the bottom of that inning as Gavin Dugas scored on a Crews RBI single, and Crews scored on a Cade Beloso RBI single to tie the game at 4-4.

LSU got its first lead of the ball game in the bottom of the fourth inning when Jordan Thompson hit a triple and then scored on a fielding error by Arkansas. That error resulted in Brayden Jobert getting on first base. He was quickly brought home when Dugas hit a two-run bomb to left field to give LSU a 7-4 lead.

After a Tre Morgan walk and an error that allowed Crews to reach first base, Tommy Tanks hit a three-run bomb to center to give LSU a 10-4 lead.

In the top of the fifth, Arkansas scored a run on a fielder’s choice with bases loaded to cut the lead to 10-5. LSU got that run back in the bottom of the sixth when Tommy Tanks hit a grand slam to right field to make it 14-5.

Griffin Herring and Garrett Edwards were the unsung heroes on the mound tonight for the Tigers as they LSU through six tough innings. Herring have up a run on two hits, one walk, and two strikeouts. Edwards gave up zero runs on two hits, one walk, and six strikeouts.

Riley Cooper pitched the ninth inning for LSU as he slammed the door on the Razorbacks and secured the 14-5 victory.

LSU’s next game will be Tuesday as it welcomes Grambling State to Baton Rouge. The first pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. CT. The Tigers will then welcome Tennessee into town for a great weekend matchup.
