LSU basketball point guard Alexis Morris to enter 2023 WNBA Draft

It was expected that Alexis Morris, after LSU women's basketball took down Iowa to win the national championship Sunday night, that she'd take the next step.

On Tuesday, the point guard confirmed that she would be entering her name in the 2023 WNBA Draft. The draft will be held in New York City on Monday (7 p.m., ESPN).

"All Glory to God, and a special thank you to my family, the LSU Women’s Basketball coaching staff, and to our amazing fan base. Excited for the next chapter!" Morris wrote on Twitter.

"I would like to say thank you Louisiana State University for allowing me to be part of such an amazing institution, where the culture, the love and the passion is unmatched," Morris added in a statement. "You trusted me and supported me as an ambassador for this university. The two years I've spent as a member of the LSU's women's basketball program has allowed me to continue to grow and further pursue my dreams.

"It is with careful thought and consideration that I am excited to enter my name into the 2023 WNBA Draft."

ESPN's WNBA Draft expert told The Daily Advertiser that Morris is projected as early as a late, second round selection. The point guard class is deep for the draft and Morris is rated around the top 10 among the position.

Morris, who had an extra COVID-19 eligibility year available, saved her best for last and really played her way into the conversation of being a draft choice over the course of LSU's national championship run.

She averaged 16.8 points for the six NCAA Tournament games, including scoring at least 21 points in the Elite Eight, Final Four and NCAA Championship game.

She averaged15.4 points per game along with four assists.
