MILWAUKEE - LSU basketball begins play in the NCAA Tournament against Iowa State on Friday (6:20 p.m. CT, TBS).

The sixth-seeded Tigers (22-11) enter March Madness without coach Will Wade who was fired last week after LSU received a Notice of Allegations from the NCAA. Kevin Nickelberry will serve as LSU's interim coach for the tournament.

The Tigers lost to Arkansas in the quarterfinals of the SEC Tournament.

Iowa State, an 11-seed in the Midwest Region, has lost its last three games. The Cyclones (20-12) last fell to Texas Tech in the quarterfinals of the Big 12 Tournament, 72-41.

Friday's matchup will be the first time LSU has ever faced Iowa State. If the Tigers win, they will face the winner of third-seeded Wisconsin versus 14th-seeded Colgate on Sunday.

LSU lost to Michigan in the Round of 32 in last year's tournament. The last time it made the second weekend of March Madness was in 2019 when the Tigers reached the Sweet Sixteen.
