Louisiana State University (LSU) beat Clemson 42-25 in the College Football Playoff National Championship on January 13 in New Orleans, claiming their fourth title.

LSU quarterback Joe Burrow put in a strong individual performance, throwing five touchdowns and taking the single-season touchdown passes record with 60. The previous record holder was Colt Brennan, with 58 in the 2006 season.
