LSU defensive end Ali Gaye reached out to Florida State QB Jordan Travis following targeting penalty

LSU defensive end Ali Gaye attempted to squash any drama with Florida State quarterback Jordan Travis.

After being ejected for targeting Travis during the Tigers' 24-23 loss to the Seminoles on Sunday night, Gaye reportedly reached out to the Florida State quarterback to halt any lingering animosity. Travis confirmed the correspondence in a Tweet on Tuesday, acknowledging a mutual respect between the players.

Gaye responded to the post shortly after, also acknowledging the respect they have for each other.

Gaye was ejected for targeting in the second half of LSU's season opener against Florida State, on a play that resulted in a score for the Seminoles. Travis connected with Ontaria Wilson with about four minutes remaining in the third quarter to put Florida State up 17-3.

Gaye, a 2020 Second-Team All-SEC honoree, recorded one tackle before being ejected. Since the targeting call occurred in the second half, the senior defensive end will miss the first half of Saturday's game against Southern if the ejection is upheld by the NCAA.
