LSU football adds 6-foot-7 Maryland offensive lineman from transfer portal

BATON ROUGE - LSU football has added Maryland offensive line transfer Mason Lunsford from the portal, the school announced Tuesday.

Lunsford started 10 games at left guard for the Terrapins last season and started 13 games in the season before.

At 6-foot-7 and 315 pounds, Lunsford has two years of eligibility remaining.

"Heart just turned purple," Lunsford wrote on Twitter. "Truly a blessing. I’ll give you everything I got Tiger Nation."

The Tigers were in need of veteran offensive line depth heading into 2023 after four linemen entered the transfer portal and starting guard Anthony Bradford left for the NFL Draft.

LSU brought back its remaining key contributors on the offensive line and added top high school recruits Zalance Heard, DJ Chester and Tyree Adams. But the Tigers still lacked anyone with starting experience to back them up outside of returning center Marlon Martinez.

Lunsford is the 12th player to transfer to LSU this offseason and the second one on offense, joining Alabama transfer Aaron Anderson.

LSU begins spring practices on Thursday.
