LSU football bowl game: Projections, live updates from selection day

BATON ROUGE - LSU football's bowl hopes appear to be destined for two places.

The Citrus Bowl and the ReliaQuest Bowl.

This likelihood comes after the Tigers (9-4) lost to No. 1 Georgia (12-0) in the SEC Championship Game in Atlanta on Saturday, ending their hopes of potentially sneaking into the Sugar Bowl for the first time since 2007.

With the loss, LSU has a chance of playing in the Citrus Bowl against a Big Ten foe. The last time LSU was in the Citrus Bowl was in 2018 against Brian Kelly and Notre Dame.

In the Citrus Bowl, LSU likely would face a Big 10 team, likely Purdue. The Boilermakers fell to Michigan in the Big 10 Championship Game on Saturday, 43-22. That game would be played on Monday, Jan. 2 (12 p.m., ABC).

The ReliaQuest Bowl – formerly known as the Outback Bowl ‒ would also have LSU matched up with a Big 10 foe, like Iowa, Illinois or Purdue. But unlike the Citrus Bowl, the Tigers could face an ACC team as well.

The ReliaQuest Bowl will also be held on Jan. 2 (11 p.m., ESPN2). The last time LSU participated in the bowl was in 2014, as the Tigers defeated 21-14.

Here's a closer look at where LSU may fall on bowl selection Sunday and who it may face.

Update: LSU will face Purdue in the Citrus Bowl, the SEC announced on Sunday. The matchup on Jan. 2 in Orlando will be the first time LSU has ever faced the Boilermakers.
