LSU football flips 3-star Class of 2024 in-state linebacker Xavier Atkins from Missouri

After landing three prospects on the Fourth of July, LSU football flipped Class of 2024 three-star linebacker Xavier Atkins from Missouri Tuesday afternoon. Atkins pledged to LSU on his social media pages.

Atkins is a Jonesboro native who had been committed to Mizzou since February, announced his de-commitment yesterday, with many recruiting experts believing it signaled his desire to stay home and play for LSU.

The Tigers have two commits for 2024 - Atkins and four-star safety Maurice Williams - and according to the 247Sports Composite they rank sixth in the nation.

Atkins was a menace in the middle of Jonesboro-Hodge's defense during his sophomore season in 2021. The 6-foot, 200-pounder racked up 219 tackles and 10 sacks.

He's ranked the fifth-best prospect in Louisiana in his class.

Four-star Class of 2023 defensive linemen Dashawn Womack and Darren Reed, plus three-star cornerback Ashton Stamps all committed Monday, causing the Tigers to surge up recruiting rankings from the low 40s to 16.

Four-star edge rusher Jaxon Howard announced his decision to play for LSU on July 1. Two days later, another four-star defensive end Joshua Mickens committed to LSU.
