LSU women's basketball makes it rain in rout of Georgia in SEC Tournament quarterfinals

GREENVILLE, S.C. – Coaches, on gamedays, usually have their teams run through a regimented routine.

Despite playing indoors at Bon Secours Wellness Arena, both LSU women's basketball and Georgia were thrown for the all-too-rare weather delay during the SEC Tournament quarterfinals Friday night.

The extended delay, which happened with 4:23 remaining in the first half, forced LSU coach Kim Mulkey and Georgia coach Katie Abrahamson-Henderson to take their teams back to their respective locker rooms.

The second-seeded Tigers led seventh-seeded Georgia 42-32 when the teams retreated from courtside for more than 40 minutes. LSU (28-1) shot 56% before the break and was not affected by it as it cruised to a 83-66 victory against the Bulldogs (21-11).

Georgia couldn't find its rhythm, even with its defensive calling card and never threatened.

Alexis Morris ignited LSU women's basketball's 3-point storm early

Over the past couple of weeks, Mulkey has talked plenty about her team needing to separate.

Senior point guard Alexis Morris boosted the Tigers early, burying her first three 3-point shots of the game, creating a gap as the game got going. LSU hit five 3-pointers in the opening period en route to tying its season-high with 11.

Morris went 5-for-9 behind the arc and ended with a game-high 28 points.

Kim Mulkey got what she needed out of Flau'jae Johnson, LaDazhia Williams

In the postseason, the success of Mulkey's team is going to go with how much it can get offensively from the likes of freshman sensation Flau'jae Johnson and senior forward LaDazhia Williams.

Johnson poured in 21 points, including going 5-for-7 from 3-point range, with a team-high eight rebounds. Williams put up 10 with seven boards.

And both scoring at an efficient clip was a welcomed sight and supply more confidence for the Tigers as they get deeper into the postseason.
