LSU women's basketball to play in 2023 Cayman Island Classic with UConn

Coming off its first national championship in program history, LSU women's basketball will play in the inaugural Cayman Islands Classic next season.

The event also features UConn, Virginia Tech, Kansas, Virginia, UCLA, Niagara and Tulane. It will be held Nov. 24-25 at John Gray Gymnasium in George Town, Grand Cayman. It will feature four teams in the top 13 of the final USA TODAY/WWBCA Coaches poll and two teams that met in the 2023 Final Four: LSU and Virginia Tech. UConn and UCLA are the other two ranked teams, and Kansas recently won the WNIT championship.

LSU won the NCAA Tournament with a 102-85 win over Iowa in Houston earlier this month. The Lady Tigers went 34-2 and 15-1 in the SEC, the only losses to South Carolina and Tennessee. They were led by Angel Reese with 23 points and 15.4 rebounds per game with 34 double-doubles.

A bracket for the tournament was not announced, but teams are scheduled to play only two days. It likely means the eight teams will split into two pools of four.

LSU is 1-6 all-time against UConn, but the win was a big one: A 23-point win in the 2007 Elite Eight for a spot in the Final Four.
