LTHC encourages community to help those struggling with homelessness

LAFAYETTE, Ind. − Lafayette Transitional Housing Center reminds the community of its Helping Families Come Home initiative that focuses serving local families struggling with housing.

In 2022, LTHC launched this month-long initiative that concentrated on raising awareness and funds for families that utilize LTHC services. As of late March, this campaign is a few thousand dollars short of its goal, according to a release.

"When thinking about homelessness, most people conjure a stereotype of a single adult but that is not the only version of who is without housing – even in our own Greater Lafayette area," the release says.

LTHC Homeless Services President and CEO, Jennifer Layton, commented on the importance of programs like Helping Families Come Home.

“LTHC provides services to these unhoused families, but we need the community’s support to make that happen,” Layton said in the release. “When we have flexible dollars to spend, we can do the most good for quickly moving people in to housing.”

In 2022, the programs Permanent Supporting and Rapid Re-Housing assisted 35 families and an additional 11 veterans' families were helped into stable housing.

"LTHC’s staff focus on education and support systems as the primary ways to help all of their clients get into a housing solution that they will be able to sustain," the release said.
