Lubbock is set to see a business boom in 2023, with a slew of new restaurants, shops and businesses. Some current stores are set to expand or move to bigger spaces. Here's what we know is coming in the new year.

114.Slide

What: A 70,000 sq. ft. commercial development will "offer everything an office needs." The development already has a list of businesses ready to move in, though have not announced them as of Dec. 20, 2022.

There will be a rooftop restaurant, a tea or coffee shop, a bank and a mix of local and national retailers. The Plaza Restaurant will also open their second location there.

"We've been very pleased and kind of shocked at the amount of activity we've had, at least from the leasing side," said Randy Egenbacher, Certified Commercial Investment Member, in an October article. "People are coming from all over, which we're excited about. There will be some well-known names out there."

Where: Corner of 114th and Slide.

When: Spring of 2023.

Bombshells Restaurant and Bar

What: "Bombshells is the modern embodiment of a vintage era. It is reminiscent of the USO clubs of the 1940's where GI's could socialize, enjoy entertainment, and find great food and drinks," according to the company's Facebook. The business offers an extensive menu, with items such as the Bettie Boop Wrap and The Green Beret Burger.

Where: 1 Main St.

D'lish Sweets & Gelato

What: Amy Hayes, owner of the upcoming D'lish business, announced her plans to turn her love of baking into Lubbock's newest bakery and gelato shop.

"I'm just excited to see it all come together," Hayes said in a November article. "I want everyone to try this out."

Where: 5017 Milwaukee Ave. #200.

When: Jan. 14.

Frost Brewhouse

What: This upcoming brewery's website says it is "making Lubbock water drinkable one beer at a time." A pair of Texas Tech science alumni, Trevor and Kayla Frost, hope to make this microbrewery a casual space with exceptional beers in 2023.

Where: 3121 34th.

When: Unannounced. Follow them at frostbrewhouse.com or Instagram.

Johnny Fab's Cadillac Grill & Bar

What: This restaurant will offer an open rotisserie, oyster bar, mesquite woodfire grill and full bar, according to its Facebook page.

Where: 11603 Slide Road.

When: Spring of 2023.

Little Red Nursery

What: Little Red Nursery is "a family-owned business that prides ourselves in providing high quality plants, information, and services in a beautiful and fun environment," according to its website. The business initially opened in the 1980s as a gas service station that sold plants and VHS, but has now become a full nursery. Anna Johnson, owner, confirmed the business will expand to a 8,400 sq. ft. greenhouse in April. A full retail location is in the works as well, and will open in the next few years.

Where: 4415 Woodrow Road.

When: April 1. Johnson said the business will be open Thursday-Saturday from 9-6.

KPOT

What: The KPOT, a Korean BBQ and Hot Pot restaurant chain, allows guests to build their own hot pot and BBQ at their tables. Lubbock will become the latest spot in their rapid expansion, and will open in the former Furr's near the South Plains Mall.

Where: 6001 Slide Road.

When: Not announced.

Mulligans Golf Bar

What: "Mulligans is an interactive 'Sports Bar & Grill' designed for year round, all-weather golf play on our world-class simulators with a full-service bar," according to the business' Facebook page.

Where: 4525 Milwaukee, Suite 300.

When: Unannounced, likely in early 2023.

Oceans Behavioral Hospital

What: Oceans Behavioral Hospital, which is part of Plano-based Oceans Healthcare, will offer in- and outpatient behavioral services to people ages 50 and older.

"There's a very big need, so the community in general, and the medical community there are arms wide open," said Dax Parker, vice president of market development, in the November article. "We're really just hoping to be able to bring awareness and complement UMC and Covenant, and just be a real mental health backbone for the community."

Where: 4202 Princeton St.

When: Mid-January. A ribbon cutting has been set for Jan. 10, 2023.

Salata Salad Kitchen

What: This Houston-based franchise promotes an array of salad and wrap options made with fresh ingredients. The company announced that they were searching for a franchisee, and had several potential applicants as of Nov. 29. Once a franchisee is found, one or more locations could open within 6-9 months. The company has their eyes on Lubbock, calling it "the gateway to West Texas."

Where: Not confirmed.

When: Late 2023, pending franchisee.

Texas Roadhouse

What: Texas Roadhouse has been located off South Loop 289 since opening on Aug. 19, 2002. In early August, social media users believed the business may be moving into the former Toys R Us. The company confirmed that they would be moving into a new building, and closing the former location in the new year.

Amanda Norton, a company spokesperson, said the reasons for the move included a need for more dining space and parking.

Where: 6101 Slide Road.

When: Spring of 2023.

The 509 Drink Shop

What: The 509 Drink Shop, based in Seminole, offers a variety of plant-based energy drinks, fruit drinks and hot chocolate. Dawn Pinson, owner, had planned to expand the business to a larger city for years. Once the Lubbock location opens, customers should expect to see a "Texas Tech theme, with a twist of rustic."

Where: 6301 82nd St. #101.

When: Late January.

The Mom Lounge

What: Mary McCabe and Anna O’Steen, moms and friends, came up with the idea to open a child-friendly hangout for parents. The Lounge will feature a play space for newborns through 5 years old, a classroom and a comfortable lounge area. The lounge will include couches and bean bag chairs, while the play area will have a slide that has a peg walk, sensory wall, felt wall and Montessori inspired toys. A separate area will have a "tummy time area" for infants to explore.

Where: 4414 82nd St., Suite 216, in the Village Shopping Center.

When: Jan. 16.

Toot'n Totum

What: Toot'n Totum is an Amarillo-based chain of travel centers and fuel stations. The company will enter the Lubbock market for the first time, and has been chanting "Lubbock or bust" as they announced multiple locations. Some of the stores will have restaurants, including Wendys and Mitch's, and all will have the "fast and fresh" food program. The expansion will create around 350-400 jobs in the Lubbock market.

Tropicale Foods

What: Bringing in hundreds of jobs and a $66.8 million capital investment, Tropicale Foods announced that they would build a facility in Lubbock, which would be its first in Texas. The company is known for La Michoacana and Helados Mexico paleta brands. The facility will make paletas at first and later expand to Bolis, cups and other innovates.

Where: 1001 East 33rd St.

When: The facility hopes to begin production in 2023. An exact date has not been announced.

Uptown Cheapskate

What: "Uptown Cheapskate is not your average thrift store. We pay cash on the spot for the stylish gently used apparel, handbags, and accessories you loved yesterday and sell them today at up to 70% off mall prices," according to uptowncheapskate.com.

Where: 5027 Milwaukee, Building F, Suite 100.

When: Unannounced, expected early 2023. Follow them on Facebook.

Western Bank

What: In August, Western Bank broke ground for a new banking center in Lubbock. This will become their third location in the Hub City, and their 10th across Texas.

Where: 118th and Slide Road.

When: Western Bank hopes to open it in the third quarter of 2023.

In 2022, Leprino broke ground on a new facility and Dillards announced a move. These locations will not be ready until 2024 or 2025.
