Lubbock area schools, organizations announce delays, closures due to winter weather

Widespread snowfall and the likelihood of hazardous road conditions has prompted some area schools and organizations to delay or cancel operations.

Schools/Colleges Delays

Frenship ISD

Frenship ISD issued a two-hour start time delay for Monday with busses running; however, on a two-hour delay and on pavement only.

Schools will open at the following times:

  • Elementary — 9:45 a.m.

  • Middle schools — 10:15 a.m.

  • High Schools — 11 a.m.

Lubbock ISD

Lubbock ISD announced start times will be delayed by two hours on Monday, Feb. 12, while the Lubbock County courthouse will delay opening until 10 a.m.

According to a news release from the school district, classes on Monday will be delayed by two hours.

  • Elementary will start at 9:45 a.m.

  • Middle schools will start at 10:20 a.m.

  • High schools will start at 10:15 a.m.

Buses will also run on a two-hour delay, according to the district.

Lubbock-Cooper ISD

Lubbock-Cooper has issued a two-hour delay with busses running on a two-hour delay and running on pavement only.

South Plains College

South Plains College has canceled classes on the Plainview campus for Monday.

All of the flowing campuses have been put on a two-hour delay:

  • Levelland Campus

  • Lubbock Downtown Center

  • Lubbock Career and Technical Center

  • Reese Center

Texas Tech University

The university announced via TechAlert! that the Lubbock campus will open at 11 a.m. on Monday.

All in-person and online classes scheduled to start before 11 a.m. are canceled, with employees needing to report at 10:30 a.m. or as directed by their supervisor.

"Essential employees may need to report sooner and should consult their supervisor. Buses will run on a regular schedule approximately one hour before campus opening," stated the alert.

Texas Tech Health Sciences Center

Both the academic and clinical portions of the TTU Health Sciences Center In Lubbock will have a 10 a.m. delay.

Wayland Baptist University

Wayland Baptist University has issued a cancellation for classes on Monday at the Plainview campus. The university advises students to check their Blackboard for class assignments.

The Lubbock campus has been put on a weather delay and will open at 10:30 a.m.

Government Offices Delays

The Lubbock County Courthouse will open at 10 a.m. Monday. Lubbock County Commissioners Court will convene at 10 a.m.

City of Lubbock offices will have a one-hour delay, with offices opening up at 9 a.m. on Monday.

The Social Security Administration offices in Lubbock and Plainview will open at 11 a.m. on Monday.

Private Schools Delays

All Saints Episcopal School announced via social media that classes will start at 10 a.m., with staff reporting at 9:30 a.m.

Trinity Christian School also issued a weather delay via social media with schools opening at the following times:

  • Early Education Center — 9:30 a.m.

  • Elementary — 10:05 a.m.

  • Middle school — 10:30 a.m.

  • High school — 10:35 a.m.
