Vitality Bowls to bring second location to Lubbock

Vitality Bowls, which specializes in açaí bowls — a thick blend of the Amazon’s antioxidant-rich açaí berry, topped with a variety of superfoods — has announced a signed agreement with local entrepreneur, Molly Watters, to open her second superfood café in Lubbock. Watters also owns and operates the original Lubbock café located at 2400 Glenna Goodacre Blvd.

Watters will open the café near the up-and-coming Reserve shopping center at the intersection of 105th Street and Quaker Avenue, where the health-focused fast casual restaurant will grant local residents, professionals and visitors access to an assortment of nutrient-dense foods not found elsewhere.

“Following the success of our first location on the south side of the city, we saw a great opportunity to bring Vitality Bowls to even more people in Lubbock,” said Molly Watters. “There is something for everyone on the Vitality Bowls menu.”

Vitality Bowls offers a variety of options, such as the Dragon Bowl (featuring pitaya, pineapple, coconut milk, goji berries and bee pollen), Green Bowl (with graviola, strawberries, kale, dates, spirulina and hemp seeds) and their signature Vitality Bowl (with organic açaí, strawberries, banana, organic granola and honey).

In addition to açaí bowls and smoothies, the brand boasts a diverse menu that includes warm and savory items including salads, grain bowls, wraps and toasts loaded with nutritional ingredients and a wide range of superfood toppings. All açaí bowls and smoothies are prepared without any ingredient fillers.

United Express launches Special Olympics fundraiser

United Express fuel and convenience stores launch a donate-at-the-register fundraiser campaign that benefits Special Olympics chapters in their local areas. The campaign will run until June 8, 2022.

United Express has been a proud supporter of the Special Olympics since 2015 and it continues its support through fundraising efforts as well as volunteering at events. During that time, United Express and The United Family have raised more than $100,000 for Special Olympics chapters across the region.

“We are so thankful to be in a position where we can help support the mission and activities of the Special Olympics,” said Angelos Lambis, director of fuel and convenience for The United Family as well as board member for Special Olympics Lubbock. “These organizations across our trade areas do so much good for their communities. We are excited to do our part to help.”

Guests can contribute to the fundraiser by adding any dollar amount to their bill at checkout in any of the 38 United Express locations in Texas and New Mexico. The money raised will stay local to the market it is raised in.

UMC presents check to school

UMC knows teachers go above and beyond every day to enrich the lives of children in our community. Tuesday evening, UMC thanked the staff of Brown Elementary School with a spy themed Teacher Appreciation Dinner and presented Brown Elementary with a $3,900 donation.

"We're incredibly thankful for UMC's longtime support of Lubbock ISD and Brown Elementary School," said Lubbock ISD Superintendent Dr. Kathy Rollo. "As a valued Partner in Education, UMC has been a vital piece of connecting our schools with the Lubbock community."

UMC sponsors Brown Elementary through the Lubbock Independent School District’s Partners in Education program. UMC has held numerous clothing, food, and school supply drives for the school since joining the program in 2010. This is the twelfth year UMC has hosted the appreciation dinner.

UMC would like to thank the many local businesses, who provided door prizes for this year’s dinner, as well as employee donors who made it possible to present Brown Elementary with a $3,900 check.
