The Lubbock Memorial Arboretum will host its annual plant sale at 9 a.m. Saturday.

YAG presents 'The Enchanted Bookshop'

Youth Artist Guild presents "The Enchanted Bookshop" at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at 2 p.m. Sunday at The Edge Theatre, 4232 Boston Ave.

During the day, A Likely Story may look like any other used bookstore. But at night, it’s a place where magic happens. That’s when the characters inside the books come alive.

Tickets, which are $15 for adults (plus $1.75 service fee) and $10 for children /students/seniors (60+) (plus $1.25 service fee) may be purchased at yaglubbock.org

Dental office hosting healthcare pathway event

Hill & Ioppolo Oral & Dental Implant Surgery of Lubbock will host a Healthcare Pathway Event from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at Lubbock's at the Cotton Court hotel at 1610 Broadway.

The event aims to give local students the opportunity to learn from talented and respected medical professionals, representatives from local colleges, and nonprofits.

NRHC to host Quailapalooza

Children 5 to 12 years old will have a hands-on opportunity to see how scientists study quail during Quailapalooza from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 30 at the National Ranching Heritage Center in Lubbock.

The NRHC will host a hands-on educational presentation designed for children presented by Texas Tech University Quail-Tech. Participants will be given the opportunity to see live adult quail and chicks, observe a quail nest and eggs, learn what quail eat, see how scientists capture quail and learn about their predators.

The program is free to children of Ranching Heritage Association members and will cost $5 for non-members. To register for the event, visit ranchingheritage.org. Limited space is available.

Women's club hosting community garage sale

The Lubbock Women’s Club Community Wide Garage Sale continues Saturday and Sunday at the Panhandle South Plains Fairgrounds Commercial Exhibit Building, 105 E. Broadway.

Times are Saturday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Sunday 1-3 p.m.

All proceeds from the garage sale benefits the Lubbock Women’s Club Foundation, a 501(c) 3 organization.

Frenship ISD to host Pre-K, kindergarten roundup

Frenship ISD will host its annual Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten Roundup event on May 4 to help families register their new students for the 2022-23 school year. During the event, Frenship staff will be available to answer questions and assist families with the registration process.

The Roundup is only for students entering pre-k or kindergarten who are new to Frenship ISD. Children must be 5 years of age by Sept. 1, 2022, to enroll in kindergarten and 4 years of age by Sept. 1, 2022, to enroll in pre-k.

Frenship offers an all-day pre-k program that follows regular school hours (7:45 a.m.to 3:15 p.m.) and the school calendar. Both state funded and tuition-based pre-k are available at all eight Frenship elementary schools.

The roundup will be held from 3:30 to 6 p.m. at each of Frenship’s eight elementary campuses:

• Bennett Elementary – 101 Donald Preston Drive, Wolfforth

• Crestview Elementary – 6020 81st St., Lubbock

• Legacy Elementary – 6424 Kemper Ave., Lubbock

• North Ridge Elementary – 6302 11th Place, Lubbock

• Oak Ridge Elementary – 6514 68th St., Lubbock

• Upland Heights Elementary – 10020 Upland Ave., Lubbock

• Westwind Elementary – 6401 43rd St., Lubbock

• Willow Bend Elementary – 8816 13th St., Lubbock

What to bring: Guardian’s drivers license, proof of residency (current water, gas, or electric bill), child’s birth certificate, immunization record, and social security car

Families who do not attend the event can begin the online registration process of their new pre-k or kindergarten student on May 4. If your child currently attends pre-k at a Frenship campus, returning student registration will begin in July.

Procurement center hosting event

In celebration of National Small Business Week, the Northwest TX PTAC at Texas Tech University will host a coffee and pastry event from 9-10 a.m. on Wednesday, May 4 at their office, 5001 W. Loop 289.

Speaker will be Dennis Churchwell, procurement director of South Plains College, talking about the dos and don’ts of government contracting and what bid opportunities are available at SPC.

NWT PTAC provides professional expertise at no charge to assist businesses interested in selling products or services to local, state or federal governments, obtaining certifications or need help to research for contract opportunities.

PTAC covers 94 counties in Northwest Texas and help businesses navigate the government contract learning curve through one-on-one counseling, workshops/webinars, business matchmaking events and reliable information on laws and regulations by professional counselors.

Christian Women's Connection to meet

Lubbock Christian Women's Connection is scheduled to meet at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 10, at the Lubbock Country Club, 3400 Mesa Drive.

The theme of this month's luncheon and program is “Let the Fiesta Begin.”

Special speaker is Jeri Harkins of Hillsboro talking about "Putting Perfection First-Phooey." The program will be Todd Curtis of Access to the Past showing treasures from estate sales.

Cost of the luncheon, program and door prizes is $20.
