Free donut for National Donut Day

National Donut Day is almost here and to celebrate, on Friday, June 3, Dunkin’ is offering its Lubbock guests a free classic donut of their choice with the purchase of any drink. Guests can celebrate the holiday by grabbing their favorite sips and receive a free donut.

This special offer is available all day on National Donut Day at participating Dunkin’ locations, while supplies last.

National Donut Day was originally established in 1938 by the Chicago Salvation Army to honor women who served donuts to soldiers during World War I. The holiday is traditionally celebrated on the first Friday of June.

Great Clips hosting fundraiser for Uvalde families

The locally owned Great Clips salons are showing their support for the families of the Uvalde’s Robb School shooting by holding a fundraiser from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, June 4.

On Saturday, all eight locations of Great Clips in Lubbock and Plainview will donate $2 from every haircut to the Robb School Memorial fund at First State Bank of Uvalde. This account is supported by Uvalde elected officials and the CISD, 100% of all donations are charitable and will go to the victims and survivors of the mass shooting. Donations will also be accepted.

Covenant hosting community health fair

Covenant Health will host its first Health for a Better Lubbock: Community Health Fair, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, June 4, at the YWCA at 66th Street and University Avenue.

Health for a Better Lubbock will be a free, family-friendly health fair with activities for children, food trucks, educational booths, and more. Activities for children include bounce houses, an obstacle course, and exploring a variety of emergency vehicles.

Covenant Health ministries and community partners will have educational booths to provide valuable information about healthy living, dental health, mental health, car seat safety, diabetes and more. Additionally, there will be several on-site screenings available.

YWCA will have information about upcoming summer camps and programs. The South Plains Food Bank will also be kicking off their summer feeding program and families can sign up for the program at the event.

Llano Logistics to hold job fair

Llano Logistics, 5801 MLK Jr. Blvd., the distribution arm of The United Family, will hold an on-site job fair to hire for a multitude of positions from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, June 6.

Llano Logistics offers full-time and part-time positions with opportunities to work morning and evening shifts. Llano has a variety of benefits including starting pay of $15 to $17 per hour, a $600 retention bonus and quarterly safety and attendance bonuses. As part of the Llano team, new hires will also enjoy the benefits of being a part of The United Family. This includes things like weekly pay, grocery discounts, steady income and opportunities for career growth.

Casas for CASA Raffle gets underway

Casas for CASA presented by Market Street will be hosted at 4205 98th St. from Wednesday through Thursday, June 30. Anyone and everyone can purchase raffle tickets for the opportunity to win a $3,500 MasterCard gift card, or a custom-built playhouse, doghouse, or storage building donated by local community members.

Raffle tickets can be purchased anytime online at www.casaofthesouthplains.org or at the Market Street location at 98th Street and Quaker Avenue, on Thursdays and Fridays from 4-7 p.m., Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and on Sundays from 1-5 p.m. Raffle tickets are $5 each, or 5 tickets for $20, 15 tickets for $50, or 40 tickets for $100. The drawing will be held Thursday, June 30 at 5 p.m. Attendance is not necessary to win.

The funds raised during Casas for CASA stay right here in Lubbock and the five surrounding counties they serve. A CASA, or Court Appointed Special Advocate, helps a child in foster care navigate the child welfare system while working to ensure their needs are being met and advocating to find them a safe, permanent home.

CASA will also be hosting Special Events on Saturdays during Casas for CASA. The Lubbock Police Department SWAT Team will be giving tours of its armored vehicle “The BEAR” at 11 a.m. June 4. Fearless Champion and the Masked Rider, along with players from the Texas Tech football team will make an appearance at 11 a.m. on June 11.

SPC Natatorium needs certified lifeguards

LEVELLAND — The South Plains College Natatorium seeks American Red Cross certified lifeguards.

Anyone interested in becoming a certified lifeguard is urged to contact Mike Harrison, natatorium director, at (806) 716-2228.

Participants must be at least 15 years-old and able to demonstrate swimming skills.

United Express launches Special Olympics fundraiser

United Express fuel and convenience stores launch a donate-at-the-register fundraiser campaign that benefits Special Olympics chapters in their local areas. The campaign will run until June 8, 2022.

United Express has been a proud supporter of the Special Olympics since 2015 and it continues its support through fundraising efforts as well as volunteering at events. During that time, United Express and The United Family have raised more than $100,000 for Special Olympics chapters across the region.

Guests can contribute to the fundraiser by adding any dollar amount to their bill at checkout in any of the 38 United Express locations in Texas and New Mexico. The money raised will stay local to the market it is raised in.

Christian Women's Connection to meet

Lubbock Christian Women's Connection will hold its next luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 14, at the Lubbock Country Club, 3400 Mesa Drive.

The theme will be “Sunshine On My Shoulders” and attendees are asked to wear their favorite hat.

Special speaker will be Robin Reese of Longview speaking on "How to be Secure in an Unsecure World".

Special music will be by the Sweet Adelines.

Cost for the luncheon, program and door prizes is $20.
