Republican women's group to meet

The next meeting of Lubbock Area Republican Women is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 20, at the Lubbock Women’s Club, 2020 Broadway.

This month's speakers will be candidates for District 84: Carl Tepper, David Glasheen, Cheryl Little, Kade Wilcox. Also speaking will be candidates for Lubbock County Judge: Gary Boren and Curtis Parrish. County Commissioner candidates are Jordan Rackler and Chad Seay

Voices of Service to perform March 6

Voices of Service, a soulful quartet consisting of U.S. Army active-duty and veteran service members, is scheduled for 6 p.m. Sunday, March 6 at the Frazier Alumni Pavilion, Texas Tech University.

Voices of Service, is part of the nonprofit Center for American Military Music Opportunities (CAMMO). This nationally known quartet consists of Retired Master Sgt. Caleb Green, retired Staff Sgt. Ron Henry, Sgt. Major Christal Rheams and Sgt.1st Class Jason Hanna. They use their platform to increase awareness of what music can do, for servicemen and women who are coping with post-traumatic stress, and other visible or invisible injuries.

The Lubbock Women’s Club encourages members, veterans, military families and the entire community to join us to hear this talented and dynamic quartet.

Tickets for concert and dinner will be available at $125, $100, $75 per person. Concert only tickets will cost $25.

Windmills & Corvettes show set for Saturday

The American Legends Windmills & Corvettes indoor car show is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the American Windmill Museum, 1701 Canyon Lake Drive.

Admission is $5 per person with kids ages 5 and younger getting free admission.

A portion of the proceeds will go to a charity of the Caprock Corvette Club's choosing.

More than 50 Corvettes will be on display among 150 windmills inside the American Windmill Museum.

Participants can vote for the Best in Show Award, which will be announced at 4 p.m.

SPC to host quilting orientation class on Jan. 24

LEVELLAND – South Plains College’s Division of Continuing and Distance Education will host an orientation class for its quilting courses at 5:30 p.m. on Jan. 24 (Monday) in Room 121 of the Technical Arts building. The cost of the class is $55.

Classes start the following week. The instructor will be Vickey Vest.

There will be two different quilting classes offered this semester for quilters of all levels from beginners to advanced. The Monday weekly class, “Geese in the Cabin Quilt,” is set for 5:30-7:30 p.m. starting Jan. 31 for eight weeks. The Tuesday weekly class, “Texas State Quilt,” will be offered at two times – 2:30-4:30 p.m. or 5:30-7:30 p.m. The eight-week class starts Feb. 1.

Participants are encouraged to attend the orientation class on Jan. 24 to obtain more details, supplies and fabric requirements.

Father/Daughter dance set for Feb. 6

The 13th annual YWCA of Lubbock Father Daughter Dance is scheduled for 2-5 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 6.

Dads and daughters will enjoy dancing, chocolate fountains, snacks, activities, photo ops and special guest appearances and more.

Tickets are $30 per couple (father and daughter) with just $10 for each additional girl.

New Neighbors Club to meet Feb. 11

New Neighbors Club of Lubbock will hold its monthly meeting and luncheon on Friday, Feb. 11 at the Lubbock Women's Club, 2020 Broadway.

The meeting starts at 10:30 a.m. and lunch will be served after the program. Cost of the lunch is $18 and reservations are required at least three days prior to the event.

The program will be "Valentine's Day Theme Music" presented by Stacy Ward.

Consider bringing husbands and/or friends to enjoy this event. If unable to attend, please cancel your reservations as soon as possible as the club is responsible for payment.

SPC to host 24th Annual Scholarship Gala

LEVELLAND – South Plains College will present the 24th Annual Scholarship Gala on Feb. 26 at the Mallet Event Center. This year’s theme is “Grand Opportunities.”

The doors will open at 6 p.m., with dinner service starting at 6:30 p.m. Those with top-level sponsorships will enjoy a private cocktail hour from 5:15 to 6:15 p.m.

Gala guests will be able to purchase beer and wine. As in years past, guest will enjoy a meal served at their table. Musical entertainment will be provided by SPC alumna Morgan Reatherford. Other gala events will include a silent and a live auction.

One hundred percent of the Gala proceeds go directly to student scholarships.

Interested patrons are welcome to purchase tables and tickets now. There are also opportunities to donate auction items. All sponsorships levels are the same as for the last Gala with the top two featuring a VIP Meet and Greet Cocktail Hour immediately preceding the event. The sponsorship levels are Underwriting Partner – $7,500; Diamond Sponsor – $5,000; Ruby Sponsor – $2,000; Sapphire Sponsor – $1,000; and Gold Sponsor – $125.
