Lubbock-Cooper boys upset defending District 4-5A champion Abilene Cooper in basketball
WOODROW - Lubbock-Cooper used a strong second half to knock off defending District 4-5A champion Abilene Cooper 62-39 in boys basketball play Tuesday.
The Pirates led 25-22 at halftime but outscored the Cougars 13-3 in the third quarter and 37-15 overall in the second half.
Shelton Hearon led Lubbock-Cooper (11-16 overall, 2-2 district) with a game-high 19 points.
Colin Reed led the Coogs (16-8, 3-1) with 15 points, and Andrew Gonzalez followed with 10. The loss snapped Abilene Cooper's six-game win streak

Lady Pirates fend off Lady Coogs
At Woodrow, Lubbock-Cooper beat Abilene Cooper 59-44 in a District 4-5A girls game.
Lubbock-Cooper, ranked No. 8 in the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches’ Class 5A state poll, improved to 22-4 overall and 6-0 in district. The win gives the Lady Pirates a sweep of the district series.
The Lady Cougars (13-15, 0-6), play No. 20 Lubbock Monterey (24-7, 5-1) at 6 p.m. Friday in a district game at Cougar Gym.
