The Edge presents 'Salomé'
The Edge: A Company of Fine Artists presents Oscar Wilde's "Salomé" at 2:30 p.m. Sunday for a final performance, at the theater, 4228 Boston Ave.
Written in 1891, "Salomé", a tragedy in one act, is the provocative retelling of the biblical story of Herod’s stepdaughter, who is known for the Dance of the Seven Veils and the demise of John the Baptist.
Warning: This production contains adult content.
It is directed by K. Douglas McKennon, executive producer is Sean Allen Jones and producer is Jamison Driskill.

Cactus Classic Cinema features 'Cool Hand Luke'
Cactus Classic Cinema will feature 1967's "Cool Hand Look" starring Paul Newman and George Kennedy at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 27.
The American prison drama film directed by Stuart Rosenberg, stars Newman and features Kennedy in an Oscar-winning performance. Newman stars in the title role as Luke, a prisoner in a Florida prison camp who refuses to submit to the system. Set in the early 1950s, it is based on Donn Pearce’s 1965 novel.
Newman was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actor, Kennedy won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. In 2005, the United States Library of Congress selected the film for preservation in the National Film Registry, considering it “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.”

'Weird Al' coming to Hub City
"Weird Al" Yankovic and special guest Emo Philips will perform at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 29 in the Helen Devitt Jones Theater of Buddy Holly Hall.
“Weird Al” Yankovic burst onto the scene over three decades ago and never looked back. For the second time in his storied career, the world’s foremost musical satirist and five-time Grammy winner foregoes his usual high-octane, big-production show for an intimate evening of music, focusing on original (non-parody) songs from his 14-album catalog.
Marking his highly anticipated return to the concert stage after his hugely successful Strings Attached Tour in 2019 where "Weird Al" performed each night alongside a full symphony orchestra, this is a rare opportunity to get up-close and personal with this legendary performer.
Legendary comedian Philips has performed more than 7,000 stand-up comedy shows across the globe, including a two-week theater run in London’s West End. Career highlights include his acclaimed comedy album E=MO Squared and the hour-long HBO special Emo Philips Live at the Hasty Pudding Theatre. Emo is especially proud, however, of when he got to demonstrate the proper use of a table saw to Weird Al in the film "UHF".

Tom Petty tribute coming to Cactus
Free Fallin': The Tom Petty Concert Experience is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 30, at the Cactus Theater.
Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers are one of the biggest chart toppers in rock history, amassing dozens of hits and performing sold out shows for four decades. Minneapolis-based Free Fallin, The Tom Petty Concert Experience has successfully toured the country since 2007 and played before thousands of fans at festivals, fairs, independent venues, and concerts across the U.S. and Canada.
Along the way, they have evolved into a complete and spectacular live music production. Their show, featuring all of Tom’s biggest hits, includes instruments and costumes that re-create the authentic experience of a Tom Petty concert. Their breakout 2018 “Broken Hearted Tour” played more than 90 shows in 15 states and included an invitation to play for Tom Petty’s “Birthday Weekend” in his hometown of Gainesville, Florida, where thousands of people from all over the world gathered to celebrate his music.
Since then, the band has continued to play major venues and events across the country and have garnered a reputation as one of the most professional touring bands today. Free Fallin gives all rock fans a special treat – Tom Petty’s greatest hits that they all know and love. Sing along as we pay tribute to one of the greatest songwriters in rock music.

LCT plans interactive 'Rocky Horror Picture Show' event
Lubbock Community Theater is going to do the Time Warp again with an interactive event with a live cast shadowing a showing of "The Rocky Horror Picture Show".
This special event is scheduled for 8 p.m. Sept. 30 and Oct. 1, and 10:30 p.m. Sept. 30 and Oct. 1 at the theater, 3101 35th St.
Dressing up is highly encouraged and prop bags can be purchased in advance and will also be sold at the door.

Halestorm to rock Holly Hall
Halestorm with The Warning and New Years Day supporting, is scheduled to perform at 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 2, in the Helen Devitt Jones Theater of Buddy Holly Hall.
Since the group’s inception in 1998, Halestorm has toured extensively with a diverse variety of artists, including Eric Church, Avenged Sevenfold, Alice Cooper, Rob Zombie, ZZ Top and Evanescence. They’ve played around 2,500 dates around the world to date, and performed at festivals like Taste of Chaos and Rockstar Energy Drink Uproar Festival.
The band scored a Grammy for Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance in 2013, and Lzzy was named the “Dimebag Darrell Shredder of the Year” at the Metal Hammer Golden Gods Awards in 2016.

This party's gonna be so fetch.
Join Alamo Drafthouse Lubbock for a special movie party screening of "Mean Girls" at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 3.
There's a Regina George in every high school in America. That's precisely why "Mean Girls" is so relatable, and also why it's so important. Comedic goddess Tina Fey based the screenplay on a non-fiction book about the social patterns of teenage girls and then harvested those authentic situations for priceless nuggets of hilarity.
This movie is funny because it's true to life, although the cast, including Fey, Rachel McAdams, Lizzy Caplan, Amy Poehler and Lindsay Lohan (in the best role of her career), definitely had something to do with it. It's a portrayal of teen politics so accurate, it should be required viewing in every school across America.
It's packed with great quotes, from the elegantly simple, "Boo, you whore," to Damian's trademark, "You go, Glen Coco!", and at these interactive shows, you can celebrate all of these lines and more. Plus, we'll be handing out themed props, because the limit on fun at these screenings does not exist.

McMurtry to perform at Cactus

Tony Wendice has married his wife, Margot, for her money and now plans to murder her for the same reason. He arranges the perfect murder. He blackmails a scoundrel he used to know into strangling her for a fee of one thousand pounds, and arranges a brilliant alibi for himself.
Unfortunately…the murderer gets murdered and the victim survives. But this doesn't baffle the husband: He sees his hireling's death as an opportunity to have his wife convicted for the murder of the man who tried to murder her, and that is what almost happens…

Blackwater Draw to perform benefit concert
Caldwell Entertainment presents Blackwater Draw live at the Cactus Theater at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 7.

Wetzel bringing country rock to Cooks

Young Dubliners to headline at Cactus
Young Dubliners will bring their Celtic rock sound to the Cactus Theater at 7:3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 8.
After 30 years as one of the world’s leading Celtic Rock bands, the Young Dubliners have begun work on their 10th studio album and will dedicate much of the year to the project while still heading out on the road for their nationwide tour. The boys spent the first quarter of 2022 playing shows all over the United States “reconnecting with fans while we tightened up as a musical unit and prepared to hit the studio” says lead singer, Keith Roberts.

Light as a feather, stiff as a board. Who doesn't love a good high school movie cliche? Are you old enough to remember landline phones? Rewinding VHS tapes before taking them back to the video store? Teen heartthrob Skeet Ulrich? Then you probably remember what a sensation "Scream" caused when it first came out in 1996.
Heavily influenced by slashers of the late '70s/'80s, "Scream" single-handedly ushered in the return of the popular horror subgenre, which many considered dead and buried. By taking a meta approach to the standard “rules” (the virginal final girl, the bait and switch with the killer's identity, etc.), screamwriter Kevin Williamson and master director Wes Craven ("A Nightmare on Elm Street") upended everything we thought we knew about horror films, honoring and discarding time-worn formulas and terrifying audiences in the process.

Wilder Blue brings Americana to Cactus
The Wilder Blue, Texas' best new Americana group, is scheduled to perform live at the Cactus Theater at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 21.
The Wilder Blue, the Texas five-piece, puts their own spin on rock-influenced country with their eponymous sophomore album. Recorded at Echo Lab Studios in Denton, the band self-produced "The Wilder Blue" with experienced engineer Matt Pence.

LSO presents Red Romance on the West Side
Lubbock Symphony Orchestra presents Red Romance on the West Side at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21, in the Helen Devitt Jones Theater of Buddy Holly Hall.
The greatest living American Composer John Corigliano will be joining Lubbock for a weeklong residency. The LSO will be featuring two of his works including "The Red Violin Concerto" played by concertmaster Annie Chalex Boyle, and "Circus Maximus" performed by Dr. Sarah McKoin and the TTU School of Music Symphonic Wind Ensemble.
Finally, LSO will be finishing with Leonard Bernstein’s "Westside Story".

Cooks hosting Party in the Panhandle
Party in the Panhandle with Kevin Fowler and Randall King, inside the Bus Barn at Cooks Garage on Oct. 22. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the show starts at 7:30 p.m.

Johnson set to perform at Holly Hall
Jamey Johnson with special guest Kylie Frey is set to perform at 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28, in the Helen Devitt Jones Theater of Buddy Holly Hall.
Eleven-time Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Johnson is “one of the greatest country singers of our time,” according to the Washington Post.
He is one of only a few people in the history of country music to win two Song of the Year Awards from both the CMA and ACMs. His 2008 album, That Lonesome Song, was certified platinum for 1 million in sales, and his 2010 ambitious double album, The Guitar Song, received a gold certification.
