The Edge presents 'Motherland'
The Edge Theater presents "Motherland" at 7:30 p.m. on May 20 and 21, and at 2:30 p.m. on May 15 and 22, at the Boston Avenue Playhouse, 4228 Boston Ave.
"Motherland" by award-winning Texas playwright Jim Tyler Anderson is directed by James Beekman Bush.
Winner of the Robert Bone, Jr. Memorial Award, "Motherland" examines the search for salvation in an apocalyptic, dystopian world, with distinct Texan and Mexican music and cultural influences.
Desperate to escape a deadly and hostile landscape, unlikely companions Pearl and Annie are pitched together as they travel toward a beacon of hope, a place they know only through folklore and legend, the Motherland.
Called by the song of La Andadora (She Who Walks), Pearl and Annie encounter a number of colorful, strange and unusual characters in their journey of hope and survival.

Hub art school presents 'Matilda, Jr.'
The Hub Performing Art School will present "Matilda, Jr." at 2 p.m. and again at 5 p.m. on Sunday, May 15, at the Cactus Theater.
Rebellion is nigh in "Matilda JR.", a gleefully witty ode to the anarchy of childhood and the power of imagination. This story of a girl who dreams of a better life and the children she inspires will have audiences rooting for the "revolting children" who are out to teach the grown-ups a lesson. Von brings comedy tour to Holly Hall
Theo Von brings his Return of the Rat Tour to the Helen Devitt Jones Theater of Buddy Holly Hall at 7 p.m. Friday, May 20.
Von can be seen and heard weekly on his widely popular podcasts that garner millions of listens/views a month "This Past Weekend", and "King and the Sting".
His new comedy special "Regular People" was filmed at the historic Ryman Auditorium in Nashville and is now streaming on Netflix. In 2020, Von completed his two-year Dark Arts Tour, which took him across America, Australia, and Europe, and another country.

Alamo to screen 'Poltergeist'
Alamo Drafthouse Lubbock is hosting a special graveyard screening of "Poltergeist" at 10 p.m. Friday, May 20.
JoBeth Williams and Craig T. Nelson star as the Freelings, whose average suburban family is tested when unexplained phenomena begin to manifest in their house. What begins as curiosity turns to terror when their young daughter (played wonderfully by Heather O'Rourke) goes missing.
Together, the family must rally their strength to rescue the child from the demonic entity preying upon their home.

The meek floral assistant Seymour Krelborn stumbles across a new breed of plant he names “Audrey II” — after his coworker crush.
This foul-mouthed, R&B singing carnivore promises unending fame and fortune to the down and out Seymour as long as he keeps feeding it — BLOOD. Over time, though, Seymour discover Audrey II’s out of this world origins and intent toward global domination.

Movies 16 to host special screening of 'Star Trek'
Movies 16 Lubbock, 5721 58th St., will host a Fathom Events special screening of "Star Trek: The Motion Picture — The Director’s Edition" at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 22, and at 7 p.m. Monday, May 23.

Shen Yun shares classical Chinese dance

Watercolor Society marks 60th anniversary
The West Texas Watercolor Society celebrates its 60th anniversary with the 2022 Spring Show at the Garden & Arts Center, 4215 University Ave., through May 31.
The West Texas Watercolor Society was organized in 1962 and granted a charter by the State of Texas on Nov. 13, 1979, for the purpose of promoting the highest aesthetic standards in the art of water media.
The West Texas Watercolor Society provides an opportunity for the interchange of ideas among persons interested in all form of water media.
