Tesla rescheduled for Jan. 15

Classic rock group Tesla brings its rescheduled show of its Time to Rock! tour to the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center at 8 p.m. Jan. 15. This show was postponed from Sept. 13 and tickets previously purchased will be honored at this show.

Tesla may have been born in the mid 80s eruption of leather, spandex, and big hair, but this band has never been about those things. Hardly. Their bluesy, soulful sound is strongly embedded in the roots of organic, authentic, 1970s rock and roll. The same roots that produced bands like The Allman Brothers, Grand Funk Railroad, AC/DC, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and Aerosmith.

After a blizzard of industry showcase gigs, Tesla quickly scored a deal with Geffen. Their 1986 debut album, "Mechanical Resonance", would eventually go platinum, nestled comfortably in the Top 40, and producing the iconic hard rock hits, “Modern Day Cowboy” and “Little Suzi.”

Remaining tickets range from $43 to $69, depending on seating, and are available through selectaseatlubbock.com or the civic center box office.

Cinemark to screen The Met Live's 'Fedora'

Cinemark Movies 16 and XD 5721 58th St., is hosting The Met: Live in HD special screening of "Fedora" at 11:55 a.m. Jan. 14.

Umberto Giordano’s exhilarating drama returns to the Met repertory for the first time in 25 years. Packed with memorable melodies, showstopping arias, and explosive confrontations, Fedora requires a cast of thrilling voices to take flight, and the Met’s new production promises to deliver.

Soprano Sonya Yoncheva, one of today’s most riveting artists, sings the title role of the 19th-century Russian princess who falls in love with her fiancé’s murderer, Count Loris, sung by star tenor Piotr Beczała. Soprano Rosa Feola is the Countess Olga, Fedora’s confidante, and baritone Artur Ruciński is the diplomat De Siriex, with much-loved Met maestro Marco Armiliato conducting.

Director David McVicar delivers a detailed and dramatic staging based around an ingenious fixed set that, like a Russian nesting doll, unfolds to reveal the opera’s three distinctive settings — a palace in St. Petersburg, a fashionable Parisian salon, and a picturesque villa in the Swiss Alps. The performance is in Italian with English subtitles.

Tickets for this special event are $27.06 for adults and $24.90 for seniors and available online in advance at https://www.fathomevents.com/
