Lubbock Habitat for Humanity Blitz Build continues through Sept. 15

Lubbock Habitat for Humanity continues looking for volunteers and support for its 12-day Blitz Build, which kicked off Labor Day and runs through next week.

This event will be at the Habitat jobsite, located at 3317 East Dartmouth St. Dozens of volunteers showed up for a kick-off event and work day on Labor Day.

This year, Lubbock Habitat for Humanity is attempting to build three houses in 12 days. Teams and individuals are encouraged to volunteer between Sept. 4 and the Sept. 15 at noon. To sign up for a morning or afternoon shift, individuals can go to lubbockhabitat.org, and look for the sign-up link under the News/Events section. This year's theme is Peace, Love, Blitz. Volunteers must be 18 and up, and all meals, snacks, drinks, tools, gloves, and a Blitz shirt will be provided.

"The Blitz is one of our biggest events, and I love seeing the community come together to make it possible," said Christy Reeves, the non-profit's executive director. "If everyone can contribute just a little money and a few hours, we can truly change Lubbock for the better one house at a time."

Lubbock Habitat will also continue to take donations throughout the Blitz to help offset construction costs for the Habitat homes. Individuals, companies, churches or organizations can donate ahead of time by contacting Lubbock Habitat at (806)763-4663, coming by the Habitat ReStore at 3630 50th Street, or they can donate onsite at the Blitz. The Lubbock Habitat ReStore also is a tool to fund the construction of homes. The ReStore takes donations of all kinds in clean and working condition and sells them at reasonable prices. They offer furniture, clothing, and home renovation items. All ReStore proceeds benefit Habitat’s mission and support their affordable housing construction. To donate to the Lubbock Habitat Restore visit them at 3630 50th Street Lubbock, TX 79413, Monday through Saturday between 10-6 p.m. Call 806-763-4663 to schedule a pickup. The ReStore will continue to operate with normal hours during the Blitz.
