A 26-year-old man was arrested Monday in connection with a November fatal hit-and-run wreck involving a pedestrian on the Marsha Sharp Freeway.

Sanford R. Jackson Jr. surrendered to police and was booked into the Lubbock County Detention Center on a second-degree felony count of failure to stop and render aid involving a death, a second-degree felony that carries a punishment of two to 20 years in prison.

Jackson's charge stems from a Lubbock police crash investigation that began about 1:10 a.m. on Nov. 29 when police responding to a crash with injuries found 33-year-old Jamil Wilson's body in the 2100 block of the Marsha Sharp Freeway.

An initial investigation indicated Wilson attempted to cross the eastbound lanes of the freeway when he was struck by a motor vehicle. The driver of the vehicle drove away without calling 911 or providing aid, the release states.

Investigators identified Jackson as the driver who hit Wilson. The case was presented on April 16 to a grand jury, which returned an indictment against Jackson.

Jackson remains held at the Lubbock County Detention Center. His bond is set at $30,000.
