A pedestrian was seriously injured after being hit by a car Friday night in south Lubbock.

Officers received a call about a vehicle vs. pedestrian collision at 74th Street and University Avenue just before 10 p.m. Friday, according to information provided by the Lubbock Police Department. There they found Jamie Cardenas, 50, with serious injuries.

Investigators believe Cardenas was walking west across University Avenue when he was struck by a 2018 Chevrolet Colorado traveling northbound. Cardenas was taken to University Medical Center by ambulance.

University was closed to northbound traffic between 74th and 82nd streets late Friday night while LPD's Major Crash Unit investigated. Police say the investigation into the accident is ongoing, and the driver has not been charged.
