Lubbock reports 9 more COVID-linked deaths in past week

Lubbock reported nine more COVID-linked deaths in the last week, with a decrease in the number of COVID-19 hospitalizations in the county and across the region.

The entire South Plains region's COVID-19 hospitalization rate declined during the past week, sitting at 9.19 percent as reported Monday compared to 9.9 percent last week, according to data provided by Texas Department of State Health Services. The city health department also reported 72 new COVID-19 cases on Monday, with a total of 67,876 total cases reported in the county since the beginning of the pandemic.

The new deaths reported Monday bring the county's total to 913 people since the pandemic began, according to data provided by the city health department. Two more deaths were reported Monday.

There were with 126 COVID-19 patients currently in South Plains-area hospitals. There were 294 beds available out of 1,272 staffed inpatient beds. Last week, there were 132 COVID-19 patients in hospitals in Texas' Region B, which includes Lubbock and the South Plains

Just in Lubbock County on Monday, 77 COVID-19 patients were hospitalized - 16 of them were previously vaccinated. There were 79 COVID-19 patients in Lubbock hospitals at this time last week.

As of Monday, about 52.81 percent of Lubbock County's population that is eligible for a COVID-19 vaccine has not been fully vaccinated.

The City of Lubbock Health Department will also provide vaccines for kids and adults from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. every Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday at their "mini-hub" clinic at 2801 50th street. The health department will also provide vaccines from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. every first and third Saturday of the month.

The clinic will continue offering Pfizer COVID-19 vaccinations, boosters and flu vaccine to those groups who previously qualified for vaccine.
