The Lubbock Symphony Orchestra will present "Elf in Concert" Dec. 3, performing composer John Debney's entire score from the modern Christmas classic "Elf" in sync with the film while it is screened overhead.

The concert, conducted by Maestro David Cho, begins at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Buddy Holly Hall of Performing Arts and Sciences. Tickets start at $25 and are available at LubbockSymphony.org.

The 2003 film, directed by Jon Favreau and written by David Berenbaum, stars Will Ferrell as Buddy the Elf, a human who was accidentally transported to the North Pole as a child and raised among the elves. Upon discovering his humanity, Buddy ventures to New York City to explore his roots and reconnect with his birth father. "Elf" also stars Zooey Deschanel and the late James Caan.

John Debney, the award-winning score's composer, is also known for "The Passion of the Christ," "Iron Man 2," "The Jungle Book" and "Hocus Pocus."

Born in Glendale, California, Debney’s professional life began after he studied composition at the California Institute of the Arts, when he went to work writing music and orchestrating for Disney Studios and various television series, according to a news release. He won his first Emmy in 1990 for the main theme for "The Young Riders," and since then he has won three more Emmys and been nominated for a total of six.

Debney has collaborated with acclaimed directors and was nominated by the Academy for his "Passion of the Christ" score. In 2005, Debney was the youngest recipient of ASCAP’s Henry Mancini Career Achievement Award.

"Writing the score was a true highlight of my career. Seeing the joy that the music and film brings to audiences each year is truly wonderful," Debney said in the release. "'Elf' has really become a modern classic and bringing this into concert halls worldwide is an absolute honor."

LSO is presenting the event in partnership with CineConcerts and Warner Bros. Themed Entertainment.
