Lubbock United Way meets $5 million fundraising goal, honors volunteers

The Lubbock Area United Way met its 2022 Annual Campaign goal of $5,811,277 and named volunteers and board members at a meeting this week.

On Thursday, the organization hosted its Annual Meeting and Volunteer Recognition. They met 100% of their goal, which helped 137,923 people in 2022.

The meeting also recognized top volunteers. Margie Olivarez received the Rita Harmon Volunteer Service Award, which goes to "individuals for a lifetime of community service." Olivarez has helped support the United Way, the Girl Scouts of the Texas Oklahoma Plains, Catholic Charities Diocese of Lubbock, and numerous other organizations.

The 2022 Campaign Volunteer of the Year went to the UMC Health System United Way Team. Tom and Kathy Krile, who have volunteered at the Catholic Charities Resale Center for 15 years, earned the 2022 Community Partner Volunteer

Board members and leadership positions were also announced at the meeting. People named to these positions were Becky Palmer as Board Chair and John Zwiacher as Campaign Chair.

For 2023, the executive committee will be:

  • Dr. Kathy Rollo as Board Vice Chair.

  • Chris Boutwell as Treasurer.

  • Jon Mark Bernal as Community Impact Chair.

  • Amy Punchard as Marketing and Communications Chair.

  • Brad Burgess as Endowment Chair.

New board members also included Kathleen Burrell, Renee Davis, Chad Grant, Andrea Parker, Keith Patrick, Kelsey Tubb, Liz Morgan, Lindsey Diaz, and Tyler Young.
