Luca Guadagnino to Direct 'Queer' Film Adaptation With Daniel Craig

A new queer story is in the works with high-profile names attached to it.

Luca Guadagnino just directed the critically-acclaimed Bones and All cannibal romance film starring Timothée Chalamet. Meanwhile, Daniel Craig is set to reprise his queer character Benoit Blanc in Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery once the sequel comes out on Netflix later this December.

Now, the actor and director are teaming up for a film adaptation of Queer, the 1985 novel by William S. Burroughs that served as a sequel to his previous book, Junkie. The story of Queer centers around the character of Lee and his romantic pursuit of a man named Allerton.

The recurring themes in Queer revolve around expatriates and veterans living paycheck to paycheck and how Lee interacts with those characters. Of course, fans of Call Me by Your Name and Bones and All – both of which include LGBTQ+ characters – are excited about Guadagnino’s next film.

In the meantime, Craig is putting behind his days of being known for playing James Bond in multiple movies. With the Knives Out franchise, Craig has found a way to keep reprising a role while not being so constricted by the weight and expectations of a legendary character like 007.

Playing Benoit Blanc in both Knives Out and Glass Onion, Craig has been able to put a little flair into his performances and have more fun. It was ultimately confirmed by director Rian Johnson that Benoit is “obviously” a queer character.

We can’t wait to see Guadagnino and Craig teaming up for this new movie.
