Roberto Figueras is The Providence Journal Boys Basketball Player of the Week
Though Middletown lost the Division II championship game to a determined Johnston team, Roberto Figueras’ contribution was immense. The junior hardly was hardly fazed by the moment and was fearless when it came time to take a big shot or drive to the bucket. He scored 13 points and led the team with eight rebounds in the loss to Johnston.
His on-court achievement led to a narrow victory in this week's Player of the Week voting. Figueras' 5,974 votes (44%) edged Johnston's Derek Salvatore for Boys Player of the Week, who earned 5,945 (43.8%).
The Islanders advanced to the Elite Eight round of the State Tournament after beating Chariho, 68-53, on Thursday night.
