Coolidge returns to 'White Lotus'

Norwell native Jennifer Coolidge reprises her Emmy-nominated part as Tanya McQuoid, an eccentric socialite, in the second season of “The White Lotus,” a social satire from Mike White (“Enlightened”). HBO announced the show will premiere in October but has not reported the exact date. The new season is set on a swanky Italian resort in Sicily. “The White Lotus” was nominated for 20 Emmy Awards, including Coolidge’s nod for outstanding supporting actress in a limited series. The awards will be handed out Sept. 12 and will air on NBC.

Lucky Larrys for Nate Corrdry

There’s something about "Larry" for Weymouth’s Nate Corddry, whose last two shows, in which he plays a guy named Larry, became hits with critics and fans. "Paper Girls,"  about a group of newspaper delivery teens forced into a time-travel war, debuted on Prime Video on July 29 and was described as a cross between "Stranger Things" and "Doctor Who." Corddry’s Larry Radakowski is the leader of one of the factions trying to keep order.

In “For All Mankind,” streaming on Apple TV+, Corddry is a former NASA scientist and later first gentleman Larry Wilson, husband of first female President Ellen Wilson. "For All Mankind" explores what would have happened if the global space race  never ended. Last month, Apple TV+ announced the Season 4 renewal of the series.

Corddry got his first big break as a correspondent on “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart” in 2005. Over the years, he’s had roles on “Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip,” “Harry’s Law,” “Mom,” “30 Rock,” “New Girl,” “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” “Mindhunter,” "Fosse/Verdon,” "Perry Mason" and, most recently, “Gaslit,” opposite Sean Penn and Julia Roberts.

Steve Carell is 'The Patient'

South Shore summertime local Steve Carell is starring in “The Patient,” a new FX limited series thriller streaming on Hulu. The first two of 10 episodes are available now and new entries air every Tuesday. Carell plays a psychotherapist held prisoner by a serial killer (Domhnall Gleeson). An Oscar nominee for 2014’s “Foxcatcher,” Carell is married to Cohasset native Nancy Walls. He is originally from Acton, but usually spends summers in Cohasset and Marshfield, where he owns the Marshfield Hills General Store. Carell became a darling around the South Shore when he gave the “MarshVegas” shout-out from the Emmy Award’s red carpet in 2007.

Love for Stoughton's Lori McKenna

Indie-folk favorite Sam Beam, also known by his stage name Iron & Wine, will release a four-song EP covering tunes written by Stoughton’s Grammy winner, Lori McKenna. The album, “LORI,” is due out Sept. 16. McKenna thanked Beam in an Aug. 30 post on her Facebook page, writing it’s “been hard to find words to express my feelings around this upcoming release. When an artist you admire so much decides to sing some of your songs in this kind of way ... I can’t register it.” McKenna's catalog includes 12 solo albums and a number of hit songs for various artists including Tim McGraw ("Humble and Kind" and Little Big Town ("Girl Crush"). McKenna, a mother of five and one of Nashville’s premier songwriters, has three Grammy wins in 10 nominations.

Braintree, Hingham meet 'Kevin'

The second – and final – season of the dark comedy “Kevin Can F*** Himself,” which shot scenes at Ashley’s restaurant in Braintree and The Snug, an Irish pub in Hingham, debuted Aug. 22 on AMC. New episodes will air at 9 p.m. Mondays through Oct. 10. Written and created by Valerie Armstrong (“Lodge 49”), the genre-bending “Kevin Can F*** Himself” follows the story of Allison Roberts (“Schitt’s Creek” star Annie Murphy), the prototypical put-upon “sitcom wife.” At wit’s end, she revolts against her life and her lovable chubby man-child husband (Eric Petersen) who mostly plays video games and drinks brews with his bros. The show is set in Worcester. Along with Murphy, the series also stars Mary Hollis Inboden, Alex Bonifer, Brian Howe and Raymond Lee.
