Ludington State Park to close for 10 months

LUDINGTON, Mich. (WOOD) — Starting in September, Ludington State Park will close for 10 months.

The park will close Sept. 3, 2024 through July 1, 2025 for construction, according to the Michigan Department of Natural Resources.

During that time, the DNR says crews will pave the park’s main road as well as the Hamlin Lake day-use parking lot, increase parking at Lake Michigan and improve pedestrian and traffic flow at the entrance.

The 4,800-acre Ludington State Park features beaches, three campgrounds, sand dunes, miles of marked trails and more. It’s also home to the Big Sable Point Lighthouse.

According to the DNR, the renovations are made possible by the Building Michigan Together Plan. The plan, signed by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer in 2022, invests $450 million into state and local parks.
