Luhansk Oblast: Russia attempting to create favourable positions to mount offensive on Bakhmut

VALENTYNA ROMANENKO – SUNDAY, 31 JULY 2022, 08:46

Russian forces in Luhansk Oblast continue to attempt to improve their tactical positions in order to mount an offensive on the city of Bakhmut in Donetsk Oblast, as well as on towns and villages in the vicinity of Bakhmut, on the administrative border between Luhansk and Donetsk oblasts. Russian ground forces are supported from the air by attack and army aircraft.

Details: On 30 July, Russian aircraft struck the areas around seven towns and villages in Luhansk Oblast.

Russia is focusing its efforts on striking military targets and (both military and civilian) infrastructure, leaving entire towns and villages without power or gas.

Russian forces fired on the positions of Ukrainian troops along the entire line of contact.

The Russians have also carried out four missile strikes, 15 artillery shellings, three mortar attacks, five attacks using multiple-launch rocket systems (MLRS), and three using tanks.

Quote from Haidai: "The Russian army’s attempts to advance are supported by airstrikes [carried out by Russian aircraft]. The occupiers intend to put additional pressure on the Ukrainian defences.

The Russians want to pin down the defence forces in order to prevent us from rotating our troops or reinforcing other fronts.

In addition, yesterday our soldiers uncovered a Russian reconnaissance group and put it out of action.

Enemy aircraft are carrying out regular firing missions in order to support their ground forces. And still, [the Ukrainian Armed Forces] repelled enemy assaults on several fronts."
