Luis Castillo to pitch Game 2 of Mariners-Astros ALDS in Houston
The Seattle Mariners will start former Cincinnati Reds pitcher Luis Castillo on Thursday in Game 2 of their best-of-five American League Divisional Series against the Astros in Houston after starting Logan Gilbert in Game 1, the team announced Tuesday.
In Game 1 of their playoff series last week against the Toronto Blue Jays, Castillo tossed 7 1/3 scoreless innings to lead the Mariners to their first postseason win since 2001.
For Castillo - who pitched for the Reds from 2017 until Cincinnati traded him to Seattle in July for Edwin Arroyo, Noelvi Marte, Andrew Moore and Levi Stoudt - it was the second playoff appearance of his career. Castillo lost to the Atlanta Braves in the 2020 National League Wild Card despite allowing just one earned run through 5 1/3 innings.

It'll be Astros-Mariners in the ALDS starting Tuesday at Minute Maid Park. Houston won 12 of the 19 games in the regular season with a +8 run differential. Mitch Haniger played in one of the 19 games for Seattle. Luis Castillo was a Cincinnati Red for most of them. Should be fun.
