Lunch on Lizzo? Grammy winner sends thanks to Washington nurses fighting coronavirus

Health care workers at one of the hardest-hit hospitals during the coronavirus pandemic received meals as a “thank you” for all the work they do -- from Grammy-award winning artist Lizzo.

UW Medicine tweeted a video of Lizzo thanking health care workers at the University of Washington Medical Center. The thank you came with lunch for workers at the Montlake Emergency Department, Lizzo’s publicist confirmed with the Seattle Times.

“Turns out @lizzo is 100% that generous to Washington’s health care workers. We appreciate you,” Washington Gov. Jay Inslee tweeted in response to UW Medicine’s tweet showing staff with the lunches.

“Hey what up to the UW Medical Center, this is Lizzo. Shout out to all of y’all for being so brave and working so hard and making sure that we’re safe and healthy and healing people. That is incredible. You guys are heroes. So the least I could do is send you some lunch. I hope you guys enjoy the food, I hope it puts a smile on your face and I hope you feel loved and appreciated because you really truly are,” Lizzo said in the video.

The UW Medical Center wasn’t the only hospital that got treated to lunch by Lizzo. She also sent lunch to hospitals in Detroit, Minneapolis, Tennessee and more, according to CNN.

Lizzo uploaded a video to Instagram announcing she would send lunch to hospitals across the country as a ‘thank you’ during the coronavirus pandemic.
