Kasey Rae Lusch and Zachary Luis Rymski of Monroe announce their engagement.

The bride-elect is the daughter of Craig and Victoria Rice of Palmetto, Florida, and Michael and Jacki Lusch of Monroe.

The future bridegroom is the son of Edward Rymski and Mary Borowski-Rymski of New Baltimore.

The couple met in Traverse City. They were engaged on March 12 and again on May 27. The future bridegroom initially proposed with his grandfather’s ring while the couple were both hospitalized after surviving a near-fatal car accident. He proposed again on May 27, with a heart-of-the-ocean ring made for the bride-elect. They celebrated their engagement with family and friends in the Arctic Encounter at the Toledo Zoo & Aquarium.

The bride-elect graduated from St. Mary Catholic Central High School and earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Toledo. She interned in the aviary at The Toledo Zoo. After working in special education as a behavior specialist, she then graduated summa cum laude with a master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling from UT.

She is a licensed psychotherapist, professor and Ph.D. student at the University of Toledo College of Graduate Studies. She is vice president of Chi Sigma Iota Counseling Academic and Professional Honor Society International. She completed clinical mental health internships at Catholic Charities and Monroe Community Mental Health Authority. In addition to having experience as a psychotherapist in private practice, she is also a prospective law student at the University of Toledo College of Law.

The future bridegroom graduated from Anchor Bay High School in New Haven and received a bachelor’s degree in geology from Wayne State University. He is a geospatial analyst and cartographer and a prospective law student at the University of Toledo College of Law. He plans to specialize in property law and environmental law. He is a first-generation American; his family is Polish.

A May 27 wedding has been set. The couple will be married on an ocean liner, by the ship's captain at sea in international waters, on the way to their honeymoon destination of Iceland, and will have Titanic-themed civil and Catholic church ceremonies back in the U.S. They are incorporating their religious and cultural Polish wedding traditions, such as the Bread & Salt Blessing Ceremony, the Oczepiny (the Unveiling) and the Poprawiny.
