Luxury apartment project planned in Pittsburgh’s Strip District
The area of 21st and Smallman in Pittsburgh’s Strip District could soon undergo some big changes, with yet another luxury apartment project planned for the booming neighborhood.
“I think that this area is really good for young professionals because there’s a lot of apartment buildings where other people in similar circumstances are living,” said Oscar Heanue, one of the many young professionals who live in the Strip District.
He understands why so many people want to call this area home.
“The neighborhood has become very tailored to people working professional jobs who want to work downtown and be within easy commuting distance,” said Heanue.
Aiming to capitalize on that, the Brickworks development would bring 228 apartments and 60 townhomes to the area, according to plans presented to the Planning Commission Tuesday.
The project calls for eight buildings in total on the nearly 3.5-acre lot adjacent to the shops and restaurants at the Terminal.
The apartments would be in two 114-unit, six-story buildings.
Plus, there would be 186 parking spots on site.
“I think it’s really great for fostering a good sense of community,” said Heanue. “It’s nice to have so many people down in this area. It keeps it really lively. It’s probably great for all the businesses who have a built-in customer base.”
The planning commission is expected to vote on the plans that were presented Tuesday at its meeting in two weeks.
