A luxury brand that manufactures man-made diamonds and jewels has opened a new location in Palm Beach Gardens.

Unsaid, launched in Paris in 2022, operates a 220-square-foot space within the Saks Fifth Avenue store at the Gardens Mall.

The space is the company's first in Florida and fourth in the United States. Unsaid also operates locations at Dover Street Market in New York City and Los Angeles, and in Saks Fifth Avenue in New York City. International locations include London, Paris and Tokyo.

A flagship store is slated to open near Place Vendome in Paris in 2024, said Shraddha Mehta, Unsaid's brand director.

"Palm Beach is the perfect destination for Unsaid due to its appeal as a luxury destination within the U.S. and globally," Mehta told the Palm Beach Daily News. "It attracts both residents and travelers with a refined sense of taste and consumers who are looking for luxury products at a high level of quality and craftsmanship. Unsaid offers a unique set of designs with never-seen-before diamond cuts and jewels that are both immensely creative, yet timeless."

Lab-grown diamonds, like these ones from Unsaid, are grown in highly controlled laboratory environments using advanced technological processes that duplicate the conditions under which diamonds naturally develop when they form beneath the Earth’s crust.

At Unsaid, a process called chemical vapor deposition is used to create the diamonds, which are chemically, optically and physically the same as mined diamonds.

First, a diamond seed is placed in a sealed chamber and heated to around 800 degrees Celsius, Mehta said. Next, the chamber is filled with a carbon-rich gas, breaking molecular bonds. Finally, pure carbon adheres to the seed and crystallizes, forming a diamond with the same scintillation, flash, fire, and brilliance as earth-extracted diamonds.

"Powered with renewable energy, recycled water and carbon extracted from the sky, Unsaid transforms Earth's natural elements into low-impact, sustainable jewels," Mehta said.

Lab-grown diamonds were first created in the 1950s by General Electric for industrial purposes, due to the durability and hardness of the material.

Over the years, Mehta said, scientists were determined to improve the quality. Only in the last few decades have selected scientists and laboratories been able to create a luxury-level quality of lab-grown diamonds.

Today, lab-grown diamonds are "an extremely desirable choice" for the modern and value-driven consumer who is seeking a more sustainable, yet high-quality product, Mehta said.

Every diamond grown Unsaid grows in the lab will be unique and requires an evaluation based on cut, color, clarity and carat.

Each diamond will have a distinctive character and composition, just like mined diamonds. However, Mehta said, Unsaid's lab-grown diamonds are Type 2A, meaning there is no nitrogen impurities in their lattices.

"Only approximately 5% of mined diamonds can compare at this level of quality," Mehta said. "The certification process follows the same protocol as mined diamonds, and every Unsaid lab-grown diamond receives our in-house certification of authenticity as well as the global certification from the International Gemological Institute.

Mehta said he looks forward to growing Unsaid, which won a 2023 Design Red Dot Award honoring the best in product and industrial design, into a "disruptive retail experience."

"Our clients like Unsaid's ability to merge design and highly innovative diamond cut creations," Mehta said. "Our wish is for an Unsaid jewel to become a memento of your own, signifying your past, present and future to come."

At the company's Palm Beach Gardens location, shoppers can browse a selection of rings, earrings, necklaces and bracelets across collections, price points and categories including bridal. Jewels start at a price point of $2,000 and go up to $120,000.
