Luxury real estate firm with ties to ‘Real Housewives’ opens 1st Virginia franchise in Chesapeake

A Beverly Hills, California, luxury home brokerage firm with ties to reality series like “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” and “Million Dollar Listing Los Angeles” is now open in Hampton Roads.

The Agency opened a new franchise location Tuesday in Chesapeake. The new location is the first Agency franchise in Virginia and joins a network of more than 65 offices across the United States and internationally. It will be led by managing partners Alan and Betsy Thompson.

In an announcement, The Agency CEO and founder Mauricio Umansky said the group was excited to arrive in Hampton Roads.

“Alan and Betsy Thompson are two of the most accomplished real estate agents in the area, and we’re thrilled to welcome them to The Agency family, knowing they will be incredible stewards of our brand and culture,” Umansky said.

Alan Thompson has three decades of real estate experience in luxury homes. He has sold more than $400 million in real estate across his career and overseen more than 50,000 transactions as a principal broker and owner of Lucky Homes in Chesapeake.

“Our booming real estate market holds perfect synergy with The Agency’s global brand and vast network of partners,” he said in the announcement.

Fellow managing partner Betsy Thompson specializes in residential sales across the region, including in Virginia Beach, Williamsburg, Chesapeake, Norfolk, Suffolk, Smithfield, Poquoson and York County. She has been voted the No. 1 agent in the region by Coastal Virginia magazine for three straight years.

Alan Thompson said the location will start with three agents with plans to recruit more.

The Thompsons embody what The Agency looks for in managing partners, Jim Ramsay, executive vice president for franchise sales, said in an email.

“Their professional experience and passion for the real estate business, along with their strong sense of local community in Chesapeake and its surrounding areas, we believe is a perfect match for The Agency as we make our way into the Virginia market,” Ramsay said.

The Agency has been on an expansion spree lately. The group has opened 22 new corporate and independently owned offices during the past year. Beyond branding, the franchise locations have access to the firm’s leadership, marketing, public relations, training, tools and technology.

The firm also debuted its own Netflix reality series “Buying Beverly Hills” on Nov. 4. The series follows Umansky and his children Farrah, Brittany, and Alexia Umansky as they navigate the luxury home market in Southern California.

Umansky and wife Kyle Richards also appear on “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” and several agents from The Agency has made appearances on past seasons of “Million Dollar Listing Los Angeles.”
