Luzerne County Council discusses election security

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Luzerne County Council is talking about increasing security for the upcoming primary and general elections.

The council discussed the ordinance Tuesday night but decided to take it off the agenda.

Some council members have expressed concerns that security measures are already in place and there is no need for any major upgrades.

Councilmember Harry Haas opposes the proposed ordinance in its current form.

“I think how we get around this is not by putting more legislation together. I think we build competency and we build back that trust with people from all political persuasions who really are distrustful of the system at this point. We’ve dropped a lot of balls here in Luzerne County,” said Harry Haas, Luzerne County Council Member.

The county council is expected to talk about election security at future meetings.
