Lviv airport could be reopened, mayor says

Sadovyi made the post in response to Ukrainian Infrastructure Minister, Oleksandr Kurbakov saying that Lviv airport is the first international airport standing ready to reopen. Kurbakov made the comment during the Sept. 10 Yalta European Strategy (YES) summit in Kyiv.

“Technically, we are ready to open (the airport); the paramount question of security remains open, however,” said Sadovyi.

The mayor added that restoring international air travel would be a boon to Ukraine’s economy.

“I hope our international partners and the UN understand this; they could guarantee (the airport’s) security,” Sadovyi said, adding that Lviv administration is open to discuss any proposals as to how the airport could be reopened.

International flights could resume to and from Uzhhorod International Airport in Zakarpattia Oblast, head of the regional council Volodymyr Chubirko said in late July.
