“Much like what happened at Svitlodarsk earlier, the (Armed Forces of Ukraine) fell back and regrouped at new defensive positions.”
“Russian troops are trying to dig in there (at Lyman), realizing that Ukrainian forces won’t simply contain them, but will exploit any opportunities to counterattack, driving the invaders from the town,” Kyrylenko said.
As both sides exchange fire across the frontlines in the Donetsk region, Russia continues to launch air and missile strikes at Ukrainian cities in the rear – Bakhmut, Pokrovsk, and Kramatorsk.
According to Kyrylenko, the Russians are particularly interested in Bakhmut, since capturing it would make it easier to completely occupy Luhansk oblast. Afterward, Moscow hopes to redeploy its forces to focus on seizing the rest of Donetsk oblast.
In the north of the region, the Kremlin’s main objective is to seize Slovyansk and Kramatorsk.
