Lyman Woodfin appointed new Autauga County schools superintendent

PRATTVILLE — Lyman Woodfin was appointed to be the next Autauga County superintendent of education Thursday night.

The five-member board of education voted unanimously for Woodfin, who currently serves as principal of Marbury High School. He has about 17 years with the system as teacher, coach and administrator. He is a former assistant principal of Prattville High School.

Woodfin, who did not attend the board meeting, could not be reached for comment. He was one of five candidates interviewed by the board for the schools’ chief post and the only local candidate.

Board President Kim Crockett was asked after the meeting if Woodfin’s local experience gave him an advantage over the other candidates.

“Not with the board, but it did with the public,” she said. “He was the overwhelming pick of the public who contacted us, and our job is to represent our constituents.”

The superintendent position came open in March when former Superintendent Tim Tidmore resigned. He was appointed by the past board and served about two-and-a-half years. This board agreed to buy out Tidmore’s contract, which ran through Dec. 31.

Daniel Boyd has been serving as interim superintendent. He is a former Lowndes County superintendent and assistant superintendent with the Alabama Department of Education.

Woodfin’s salary and start date will be determined during contract negotiations, Crockett said.

The school system is the largest employer in the county, having about 1,200 full- and part-time employees and an enrollment of about 9,000.
