Lynchburg woman reunited with hero who saved her life more than 20 years ago

LYNCHBURG, Va. (WFXR) — It all started with a simple post on social media. Lexi Snider was searching for someone she didn’t know, she was searching for her hero.

Her hero, Debra Wilson, was the woman she was looking for and the reason she’s still here today.

“I was dead, for who knows how long,” said Snider

Just three days after the post, the women would meet again for the first time since that day over two decades ago.

Wilson says still remembers that day and she said it was her son who saw Snider out in the water and pointed out that something may be wrong with the little girl floating face down on the surface.

“My heart dropped, and I just knew I couldn’t stand there and not do anything I had to try and do something,” said Wilson.

With the help of her husband, Wilson got Snider to shore and started CPR.

“She started to spit up, and then she cried out, and that was the best sound I had ever heard, was when she cried,” recalled Wilson.

Days following the incident, Wilson called the hospital to check in on Snider. But after that, the two lost contact for more than two decades.

“I requested my medical records maybe about a year ago, and that put a lot of things into perspective and I just really knew then that I had to meet Debra if that was possible,” said Snider.

Two strangers brought together by a scary situation, now with a special bond that they plan to keep.

I’m just amazed, it’s a miracle that I’m here, she’s here, and we were able to meet,”

shared Snider.

I mean, I just feel now like she’s a part of the family,”

said Wilson.

Wilson adds that this is a good reminder for people to get trained in CPR because it could save someone’s life.
