Raphael Schumacher, the 27-year-old Italian actor who was accidentally hanged while performing a stunt lynching on stage in Pisa, has been declared clinically dead.

The actor had been in a coma since Saturday night after being involved in the horrific accident but he has now been declared brain dead by doctors.

Following a procedure to establish brain activity on Thursday, the hospital issued a statement: “The family and the prosecutor’s office have both authorised that his organs be donated, but their removal will be subject to a medical assessment to be performed in the course of the night.”

It’s thought Schumacher’s scene was only witnessed by one theatre goer during the live performance of ‘Mirages’ which took place at different places throughout the Teatro Lux.

He was later discovered by a second audience member, thought to be a medical student, who spotted that he was gravely ill.

An investigation has since been launched into the theatre’s safety procedures, and his death is being treated as a “tragic accident”.
