Lysychansk may be last ‘major success’ of Russian troops – President’s Office adviser

Arestovych noted that the Russian troops had been trying to capture Lysychansk and nearby Severodonetsk for more than 90 days.
"The offensive in Luhansk Oblast is the last success of the Russian army in Ukraine,” Arestovych said.

“I mean great success. They can take a village or two. I just know what is happening in the Russian army. Lysychansk, Severodonetsk, and Rubizhne are medium-sized cities.
It took them 90 days with a large number of soldiers and major personnel losses. We simply retreated from Lysychansk. In Severodonetsk, they fought for another day and a half with an empty city, in Lysychansk – it was also two days. Where will they get operational reserves to take another city? Do they want to capture Slovyansk and Kramatorsk?”
Ukraine’s General Staff reported on July 3 that after heavy fighting for Lysychansk, the Defense Forces of Ukraine were forced to withdraw from their positions and lines.

The General Staff said that under conditions of the great quantitative superiority of the Russian invaders in artillery, aviation, multiple launch rocket systems, ammunition, and the number of personnel, further defense of the city would have led to fatal consequences.
