I’m a Celebrity 2022 – live: Olivia Attwood’s team say public will ‘hear the truth in due course’ after exit

I’m a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! is back – and viewers are already obsessed with the “unflappable” Mike Tindall and Jill Scott.

The popular ITV reality series has returned for its 20th series, which is taking place in the jungle in Australia for the first time since 2019. Read The Independent’s review of the debut episode here.

I’m a Celebrity was forced to relocate to Wales due to the pandemic, but this year’s crop of celebrities are back where the show truly belongs Down Under.

During the first episode on Sunday (6 November), Tindall and Scott impressed the public with their supremely chilled reactions to their first challenges.

This year’s stars include singer Boy George, DJ Chris Moyles, and newsreader and Loose Women star Charlene White.

However, early frontrunner Olivia Attwood has sadly dropped out of the competition due to a medical matter less than 24 hours after she entered the jungle.

Controversy rocked the show in October upon the announcement that disgraced politician Matt Hancock will be entering the series a few days in alongside comedian Seann Walsh.

Follow for live updates from Monday night’s episode...

And that’s tonight’s show done! They’ll be back tomorrow at the slightly later time of 9.15pm.

Babatunde Aléshé voted for ‘Horrifying Heights’ trial

22:29 , Isobel Lewis

Predictably, it’s Babatunde for the first heights challenge.

Which, given he already pulled out of the first one, isn’t really shocking. Good luck, lad!

22:27 , Isobel Lewis

Ant and Dec are in the camp for the first time (woo!) and they’re telling us who’s doing the “Horrifying Heights” challenge.

Our money’s on Babatunde.

Olivia Attwood’s team say public will ‘hear the truth in due course’

22:24 , Isobel Lewis

Olivia Attwood’s loved ones have acknowledged her exit in a statement on her Instagram Story.

Their statement reads: “To say Olivia is heartbroken would be an understatement, she dreamed of doing I’m A Celeb for years, and was absolutely loving every second of the show and throwing herself into jungle life feet first (just as we knew she would).

 (Olivia Attwood/Instagram)
(Olivia Attwood/Instagram)

“However, for reasons beyond her control her journey has been cut short. Your support and kind words have meant the absolute world to her, now as much as it always has. You will hear the truth from Olivia in due course.”

22:18 , Isobel Lewis

The tweets, as expected, are hilarious.

22:16 , Isobel Lewis

“All I learnt at school in French was, ‘Hi, I’m je m’appelle Jill’.”

22:15 , Isobel Lewis

Absolute gems these.

“What fish are oval shaped? What fish is Nemo?”

22:13 , Isobel Lewis

“Me and you? For a puzzle?”

At least Jill realises she and Owen are probably not the best to be doing this crossword-themed challenge.

22:07 , Isobel Lewis

Just noticed that Olivia isn’t here for this rap session. Guessing we’re not getting a dramatic leaving scene then?

22:03 , Isobel Lewis

Jill Scott rapping “Mysterious Girl”. Is this... too meta for I’m a Celeb?

22:03 , Isobel Lewis

Owen Warner: himbo king.

22:01 , Isobel Lewis

Chris Moyles lying that he’s a professional dancer to Owen Warner? Quite funny.

Jill Scott getting in on the joke? Hilarious.

Mike Tindall, Boy George and Sue Cleaver exempt from first trial

22:00 , Isobel Lewis

We’ve got the first publicly voted trial coming up!

However, there are a lot of exemptions: Olivia Attwood, as she’s gone, but Mike Tindall, Boy George and Sue Cleaver are all also unable to take part for an unspecified reason.

21:56 , Isobel Lewis

“I’m not going to be horrible, but I’m also not going to be told what to do.”

He’s going to be horrible, isn’t he?

21:56 , Isobel Lewis

Didn’t think we’d be getting the word “patriarchy” this early in the series.

21:55 , Isobel Lewis

Boy George is learning to remove himself from situations when he’s got the temptation to be pass agg, which is good! We love personal growth!

21:54 , Isobel Lewis

Boy George is the lone vegetarian in the camp, so he’ll be on the mushrooms.

Apparently they weren’t cooked, either! The outrage!

21:53 , Isobel Lewis

Food parcel coming in. Anyone know how to cook mudcrabs?

21:44 , Isobel Lewis

“I’m a Taurus, I hate new people.”

I miss Olivia already.

Mike Tindall talks ‘boozy’ first date with Zara Phillips

21:44 , Isobel Lewis

Apparently Mike and Actual Royal Family Member Zara Phillips had a “boozy” first date and bonded over their love of “getting smashed”.

Stars! They’re just like us!

Mike Tindall giving us the goss we want in the jungle. Royal goss!

“Is your wife Australian?” “No.”

Obsessed.

Jungle VIPs get 8 stars in first trial

21:41 , Isobel Lewis

But that’s eight out of a possible 10 stars for the first challenge! Not bad going!

21:39 , Isobel Lewis

Boy George had chanting to keep him calm in the tank. He wasn’t stressed at all, apparently.

21:37 , Isobel Lewis

Chris is struggling to get the stars out of his tank and that water is getting hiiiigh.

He says he’s struggling to breathe, which is not a good sign. Go on team!

21:34 , Isobel Lewis

The water’s filling up for the boys, while the girls are putting their hands in with a bearded dragon. Which, I have to say, I actually think is quite cute.

Whatever entrails or guts are in the next hole? Not so much.

21:32 , Isobel Lewis

Olivia and Scarlette screaming a lot, which you can’t really blame ‘em for.

Worms definitely worse than snakes though, no?

21:27 , Isobel Lewis

Worms!

Snakes?

Olivia Attwood, Boy George, Chris Moyles and Scarlette Douglas do first Bushtucker Trial

21:26 , Isobel Lewis

Scarlette and Olivia will be putting their hands in the “hell holes” to turn on taps, while Chris and Boy George are lying in the “torpedo tubes” trying to collect stars.

Those names not leaving me brimming with confidence.

21:23 , Isobel Lewis

Olivia, Chris, George and Scarlette walking along a sandy beach for the show’s first trial in Australia in three years (!).

Boy George, naturally, has wrapped his fleece around his head. But is it fashion?

21:22 , Isobel Lewis

Nice PJ and Duncan reference there!

21:15 , Isobel Lewis

Snoring, it turns out, is a hot topic of contention.

Mike Tindall is apparently another culprit, which isn’t really surprising anyone...

21:12 , Isobel Lewis

Boy George at his Boy George-iest, meditating for two hours when he couldn’t sleep.

Scarlette, however, is only bothered about his snoring.

21:12 , Isobel Lewis

Charlene White getting emotional in the first night. You can’t blame her!

21:09 , Isobel Lewis

In the VIP camp, they’re eating rice and beans, an I’m a Celebrity classic.

Chris Moyles bragging about cooking for Jamie Oliver, Olivia Attwood immediately dragging him to hell for name dropping. Incredible.

Shedding a tear for the lost quotes she would have given us...

21:07 , Isobel Lewis

Looks like meat’s back on the menu, boys – and it’s kangaroo rump at main camp.

Owen says it “slaps”, so much so he’ll be asking for it next time he’s in a restaurant. Rather him than me.

Olivia Attwood to feature in tonight’s episode

21:06 , Isobel Lewis

Ant and Dec clarifying that Olivia will feature in tonight’s episode, as she took part in the first trial as a VIP before she had to leave.

The pair say they’re “very sad to see her go” and wish her well.

19:55 , Isobel Lewis

Boy George is also taking part in the first Bushtucker Trial tonight.

However, the “Karma Chameleon” singer’s inclusion in the show has been questioned by a man who George once “chained” to a wall, who has criticised the casting and says he won’t be watching.

George pleaded not guilty, but was convicted of assault and false imprisonment and went to prison for 15 months in 2008 for the crime.

19:20 , Isobel Lewis

Looking at the teaser, we can expect tonight’s trial to be as animal-filled as ever.

One group who won’t be happy are Peta, who have called on Ant and Dec to resign after years of repeated criticism over the show’s use of live and dead creatures.

Will Olivia Attwood appear in tonight’s episode?

18:55 , Isobel Lewis

Before she was forced to leave I’m a Celebrity, Olivia still took part in the first Bushtucker Trial.

The reality TV star was joined by Chris Moyles, Boy George and Scarlette Douglas for the challenge, titled “HMS Drown Under”.

The full challenge will air tonight.

Olivia Attwood will be ‘gutted’ to leave show, fiancé Bradley Dack says

18:24 , Isobel Lewis

Olivia Attwood’s footballer fiancé Bradley Dack has broken his silence on her exit from the show, saying that the Love Island star will be “gutted” about leaving so early.

He told MailOnline: “I just saw it in the news, like anyone else. She’ll be gutted. I think she’s fine, but I haven’t spoken to her. I’m really not sure what’s happened.”

ICYMI: Olivia Attwood leaves I’m a Celebrity

18:10 , Isobel Lewis

In case you missed the shocking news: Olivia Attwood has left I’m a Celebrity already!

Just 24 hours after arriving in the jungle, the Love Island star was forced to pull out of the competition on medical grounds.

We know a lot of people viewers were tuning into last night’s episode in hope of seeing Matt Hancock surrounded by snakes or chomping on a kangaroo testicle.

A first look at tonight’s trial...

16:10 , Nicole Vassell

Last night, we learned that “VIP” isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. Though Boy George, Scarlette Douglas, Chris Moyles and the now-departed Olivia Attwood got preferential treatment at the start, the acronym actually means “Very Isolated People” in I’m a Celeb land – which meant spending the first night on an island away from the main camp, and instantly being signed up to take part in the first Bushtucker Trial.

Here’s your first look at Boy George in the trial, titled “HMS Drown Under”:

Matt Hancock’s not yet in the jungle, but already people can’t help speculating on what kind of campmate he’ll be.

The jury’s still out for a lot of us, but The Independent’s Sean O’Grady is ready for everyone to place their bets on whether the former health secretary’s place on the show comes out of being naive or being manipulative...

ITV confirmed the news to The Independent, stating that the former Love Island star left the series “as a precautionary measure” in order to “undergo some medical checks”.

A spokesperson said: “Unfortunately, the medical team has advised it is not safe for Olivia to return to camp as there needs to be further investigation. She has been absolutely brilliant and she’ll be very much missed on the show.”
