I’m a Celebrity 2022 – live updates: Matt Hancock’s arrival sparks mixed reactions from fellow campmates

Matt Hancock has made his debut on I’m a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! and hosts Ant and Dec wasted no time getting a dig in there after the politician said he was an Ed Sheeran fan.

Campmates such as Boy George and Charlene White were upset by the politician’s arrival.

The popular ITV reality series has returned for its 20th season, which is taking place in the jungle in Australia for the first time since 2019. Read The Independent’s review of the debut episode here.

I’m a Celeb was forced to relocate to Wales due to the pandemic, but this year’s crop of celebrities are back where the show truly belongs: Down Under.

During the first episode on Sunday (6 November), Mike Tindall and Jill Scott impressed the public with their supremely chilled reactions to their first challenges.

However, early frontrunner Olivia Attwood sadly dropped out of the competition due to a medical matter less than 24 hours after she entered the jungle.

The second episode, which aired on Monday (7 November), saw the show’s first Bushtucker trial, which was done by Chris Moyles, Scarlette Douglas, Boy George, and Attwood prior to her departure.

Episode three on Tuesday 8 November featured Babatunde Aléshé conquering his fear of heights in the Bushtucker Trial, Boy George accusing Charlene White of being “controlling”, and the first look at new campmates Hancock and Seann Walsh.

One question we’ve been pondering is whether our original campmates know that Matt Hancock is going into the jungle.

While the MP’s name was mentioned among initial rumours for the line-up, his appearance was only confirmed once the first 10 had touched down in Australia and, presumably, were in isolation.
