‘I’m certain I’m not playing’: Brady shuts down fresh unretirement rumors in Vegas

Amid concerns over new Raiders quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo’s offseason foot surgery and Tom Brady’s imminent ownership stake in Vegas, some began to speculate the seven-time Super Bowl champion could eventually suit up for the silver and black.

Brady did his best to put the rumors to bed Thursday.

“I’m certain I’m not playing again so I’ve tried to make that clear,” Tom Brady told SI Now’s Robin Lundberg. “And I hate to continue to profess that cause I’ve already told people that lots of times. ”

According to ESPN, Garoppolo’s contract with the Raiders this summer entailed the veteran QB signing a waiver in place of a physical with the team. Garoppolo suffered a major foot injury during the 2022 season that required surgery after he inked his new contract.

“In the absence of this waiver, [Garoppolo] would not pass the club’s physical examination because of a preexisting medial and middle cuneiform and a fracture of the base of the second metatarsal in the player’s left foot,” the addendum read.

The addendum allows the Raiders the ability to terminate his contract for any reason related to the waiver.

With Garoppolo’s future less secure than a typical 10-year vet with a fresh $72,750,00 contract, some began to question if Tom Brady’s ownership deal with the Raiders could eventually see him leap from the owner’s box to the huddle.

But Brady says the only scrambling he’ll be doing next year is what he does to juggle his roles as a commentator and parent.

“I’m looking forward to my broadcasting job at Fox next year. I’m looking forward to the opportunity ahead with the Raiders and we’re in the process of that along with the other different things I’m a part of professionally and in my personal life,” said Brady. “Just spending as much time with my kids as I can and seeing them grow up and support the different things that they have going on. And that’s a very important job and I take them all pretty seriously.”

Even if Brady were to unretire again, he would reportedly need the approval of 24 of the league’s 32 owners to suit up for Las Vegas as a part-owner.
